Altered Ego is a clone that can survive unassisted without cloning anything. I forget that clones are mostly may abilities because they immediately die most of the time, but there are some corner cases for one that doesn't, like kicked Rite of Replication hitting five different creatures. I can't imagine that it's a big enough difference to really draw anyone to the card, but it's something new.

[Pr]Jaya | Estrid | A rotating cast of decks built out of my box.
Actually... it can't. It doesn't get the X counters as a replacement unless it's copying something... How... awkward.
Altered Ego is interesting enough with the "can't be countered" clause. Makes it a decent clone for the same cost. The pump effect is not much draw to me because it gets expensive mana wise. Good option against decks where counters matter, but I like the uncounterable part better at 4 mana. Plus I really like clones more than I should, so this will probably see play in something of mine.
The Gitrog is the answer to my wildest dreams. Not only have I been given a commander that is the very embodiment of durdly Life From the Loam synergy, but it's a Frog Horror to boot. I couldn't be more pleased. The only worry I have is that it might be too good to be able to play without putting a "Kill me!" sign on my forehead.
Gitrog (my phone autocorrected to "Horror"!) seems like the easiest good stuff general. I love it.
I guess it could work for goodstuff, but I think you'd be doing him a disservice. He's a mondo combo with dredge and works great with discard, any variety of self mill, fetches, etc. I could definitely see some pretty busted combo decks using him, or just out of control dredge synergy. get your leylines ready.
I think I'm going to replace Phantasmal Image with Altered Ego in my Intet deck, mainly because of the Green Sun's Zenith interaction. I only have space for one clone, so I'd like to have one I can get with GSZ. Progenitor Mimic's six mana is too much for the deck, but four should be okay. The option to pump for extra mana will be nice now and then.
Altered Ego: Animar. Even Sheldon said it himself. While I seldom play clones in Animar because Grimgrin has that under his theme, I made exceptions for powerful non-Monoblue options like Progenitor Mimic and this has joined that club (now a grand total of 2 members).
Seasons Past: Demonic Tutor it back for non-stop value. I might consider moving my Demonic Tutor over to Karador just to get this engine going.
Actually... it can't. It doesn't get the X counters as a replacement unless it's copying something... How... awkward.
Aww, heartbreak. It's gone from kind of interesting to not so much. I'll still play it occasionally.
It's almost strictly better than Clone. At the same CMC, it's an uncounterable GU Clone, and you can optionally pay more into it to give the cloned creature +1 counters.
Seasons Past is yet another card from this set that is definitely going places... probably my self-mill "Teneb, the Harvester plays in the graveyard" - big graveyard and wild mana curve (even for EDH) is just what this card wants.
Survive the Night is yet another pretty solid card that'll find a home in Dromoka, for being indestructible outlet that also draws me.
On a general note, I am really starting to like Investigate/clues as a mechanic.

With stitchwing skaab finally being a thing. I would like to take the opportunity to spoil river kelpie. Yes it came out years ago, but the plane of innistrad is chalked full of goodies. This set feels like Odyssey and Innistrad got together after BFZ and had a baby and it's beautiful!
I agree. We should all only play g/x decks because they are the most objectively fun and anyone who disagrees does not know the truth about EDH. Everyone should just play their decks because interaction beyond high fiving about how many land are in play is unfun and equivalent to casting Stasis while kicking puppies. I for one will never play with anyone who casts tutors, removal spells, blue cards, things I arbitrarily decide I don't like but will probably cast myself later.
Actually... it can't. It doesn't get the X counters as a replacement unless it's copying something... How... awkward.

Every clone printed since clone is almost strictly better than clone, except for that one gigantiform clone, which is strictly better.
For the most part, they all just have one little thing that makes them not 'stictly' better, but might as well be.

Well, people finally got their green mythic:
Seasons Past 6 mana super regrowth that GSZ's itself isn't bad. It's only one more than the flashback thing of aweomseness, but the ability to return non-permanents is huge.
Seasons Past has potential. I love that it doesn't exile itself. In theory, it goes infinite with Turnabout, any cantrip, an otherwise empty library, and lands that tap for sufficient mana (usually twelve or more).
And now we get a card that is, for the same cost, one half of one half of Primeval Titan. Sounds like a format staple to me!
Far from half a primeval. Sure, it might be bigger and beefier. But only searching 1 land as an etb and none if it sticks around to attack are big downsides. Searching any land is nice but Realm Seekers, Knight of the Reliquary, Crop Rotation, Expedition Map and a bunch of other things already does that.
You don't really play a 6 mana creature for the ramp but rather for the utility of getting any land. But 6 mana is a highly contested spot with a LOT of goodies. Don't see the hydra measuring up to the rest I'm afraid.
Then again, it's a cool card and surely plyable, but far instant format staple. Just my speculation though.

I was being very tongue in cheek, but I'm going to nitpick anyway. I did not call it half of Prime Time. I called it "one half of one half of Primeval Titan."

Zedruu: "This deck is not only able to go crazy - it also needs to do so."
The hydra is going to slot straight into my Zegana Eldrazis. It will grab Eye of Ugin, so the turn after it lands, big things are going to start hitting. I can see it in any deck that wants to keep ramping and any deck that can blink-abuse it, but don't make the mistake of ever calling this on par with Primeval Titan - it's not.

Seems I really need to read up on reading though, don't understand how I misread that. Oh well, worse things have happened (homelands I hear ).
From under the floorboards have potential in a discard oriented deck. Black has quite a few mana doublers to make use of it.
