The guild also received Abrupt Decay, another 60/4 staple.
I think the Golgari Champion may be a bit pricy as a result.
Oh most definitely. He's fairly costed for what he brings to the table. I just wish he did something else, but I guess it makes sense he does what they set him up to do.

Honestly the only thing that makes him even remotely attractive in basically any format is the prospect of being able to scavenge Phyrexian Dreadnought or Death's Shadow for double digit counters for a single mana. I doubt this is actually worthwhile in Legacy (Stiflenought has been non-viable for years and this is arguably worse), so the only place I could really see it would be Modern.

Would be fun to make an EDH deck around it though! Black/Green has multiple ways to pitch into your graveyard grab Phyrexian Dreadnought, Death's Shadow, and to a lesser extent Force of Savagery, Nyxathid, Hunted Horror, etc. Add in Skullbriar for a good choice to scavenge onto, Lotleth Troll and the like in case you get stuck with them in your hands, then just load up on good guy BG stuff. It wouldn't be competitive by any means, but I think I would have a blast with it!
I'm so disapointed by the millpire. First of all I didn't realize that dimir had vampires. Second of all this is such a bad mill card. I would play it in limited or sealed, but that's about it. Even in standard in a bad mill deck it's too slow. He's supposed to be a freakin psychic vampire, not a bad general that mills a little!
They have like... Three other vampires, one of which is Szadek. So... Not many.
the millpire sucks. pretty much unplayable in every format. as if wizards hadn't screwed up dimir enough so far, they had to give dimir the worst guild legend too
it has its uses...
for example, if you have an emrakul and some 1/1, but the opponent flashes in an ambush viper, and it gets flying thanks to wonder in the yard, it kills em. but with sorrow's path, you save emrakulfor 2 life. it doesn't have to be em, it can be kosilek.
thank you for helping me prove my point.:D

Shouldn't this make you happy though. Not overpowered. Not a staple in every U/B deck. Guess I'm just confused as to what people want.
My disappointment with Mirko isn't because of power level but because he doesn't bring anything new to a Dimir commander deck. He fills the exact same role as Szadek, Lord of Secrets, he just does it in a slightly different way. Others like Melek, Teysa, et al. at least do something that other legends of their colors haven't done before, and give you new deck-building options. Mirko doesn't really do that. I'd like him a lot more if Szadek didn't already exist.
As a 5 mana creatures, it's really small. Smaller than almost anything else in the air other than tokens. It's trigger is only on combat damage to a player, unlike Nemesis of Reason who has trigger with a similar effect. It has no ability to use the milled cards, meaning it's just another enabler and there's already better enablers.
They want something that's so unique and special that only they will see how to use it and so powerful that it'll win the majority of their games. At least that's the only interpretation that makes sense from the comments so far.
Nope. Just something that you could possibly justify playing over other options would be fine.

We want a Legendary creature to not be a worse Nemesis of Reason. Not asking for too much I think.

Except that if it did that people would complain that it was too strong. Basically I'm saying that magic players complain about everything. Nothing new. Magic players need to get their head out of their asses.

I'm so sad I can't run Beck and Call in my Animar. Stupid split cards. Thankfully, house rulings will let me, but I will have to take it out whenever I play with strangers.

If you see someone complaining about mill in an EDH forum, I'd put them ~90% on trolling/8% on being extremely new to the format.
Besides, a goal of R&D is to not be 'too strong' or 'too weak' but they'll almost always err on the side of safety. This means quite a few cards are simply unplayable in any format. This is one of them. As the Dimir part of a rather hyped cycle, of course people are going to be annoyed.
Remember, people, every guild got TWO legends this block.
Mill will always be "worse burn" but some people just have to try it.

Oh, you think the losers' bracket is your ally, but you merely adopted the scrub tier. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t 4-0 an FNM until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but an extra pack to sell for store credit!
Wow, I don't feel so bad about the other champions anymore. I'm sure that most of these cards will find their use somewhere, but the theme for these guys seem to be uninspired design, terrible mana costs, or strictly worse versions of other cards. (Looking at you Vorel)
Exava seems like an all star for standard though post rotation. Varolz looks interesting enough, but the only thing Kresh envies on this guy is being his own sac outlet.
Vorel isn't strictly worse than Gilder. Gilder has to either attack (and die) or find a way to tap himself if he wants to use his ability. Vorel is in your Command Zone, and his ability is cheaper.
And I actually like Mirko as a creature in a Lazav deck. I don't know why his stats are 2/4, and he is very similar to Szadek and Nemesis of Reason, but I'll still run him. As people have said, Mind Funeral for 4 is a lot of cards.

Just remember that the token will still be a copy of the targetted card as-printed, not the humbled version of it.

Lazav, Dimir Mastermind has a highly variable power level, but he is most definitely not Nemesis of Reason.
