I don't even own a copy of this card, but every time I see it I'm entranced by the whole idea of it, the flavor, the art, the mechanic... very cool.
What have you used Fable of Wolf and Owl in where it worked well? I'm thinking a token based Edric deck would be one idea.... the biggest obstacle is its mana cost. Edric likes to be leaner.
I've played it in Edric, and it functions in multiplayer as a bit of wrath protection. With that deck, it tends to get out of hand very quickly. That being said, there were often other things I wanted to be doing at six mana. Although turning your opponents' attention from casting a wrath to finding enchantment could be strong. YMMV.
I'm not sure what other U/G deck would want it. It doesn't seem to fit in Kraj, and only loosely in Vig. Damia and 'Plasm aren't really token commanders either.
I actually own one of these, because when I first saw I thought it would fit nicely into a U/G storm deck of some kind. I just haven't built one of those yet, so it sits....mocking me with it's tokeny goodness.
One day, I will break this card. Perhaps when we have a more interesting G/U commander than Vig I'll give it a whirl.
Put in d0su's Vig list that changes the color requirements for the Vig trigger and do the same trick with this and get a bunch of tokens as you play your whole deck of elves?
Play to win. If you don't, you're disrespecting everyone you're playing with by wasting their time. The Douchbag check is at the level of deck construction.
Hm... Cloudstone Curio + any of the "free" creatures (Cloud of Faeries, Peregrine Drake, Great Whale, Palinchron) + Fable = infinite bird tokens. I mean, Cloudstone goes infinite with basically anything, and the free dudes aren't much less notorious, but come on, INFINITE OWLS.

Well you need a 3rd wheel since casting cloud means bird enters first than cloud.
I used to play a guy who ran this card in a simic deck. I don't recall any games where it was really all that effective, the games where it got nuts it really just served as a win more card.

Yeah, it's pretty weak against Awakening Zone, Bitterblossom, or Creakwood Liege in terms of what it does and what it costs... These three are good in stax/denial builds because they keep on doing what they're doing regardless of casting spells. Not a broken card, but a functional one in a deck that already wants to be doing things like this.
The things you have to do to go infinite with this card... I'm thinking there's just other better ways to take advantage of whatever infinite thing you're doing.
I think I'd probably go for Edric control. Momir Vig and Talrand in the 99, and a lot of instants and sorceries that create tokens or counter spells.
Its a great card. One that to me is what makes EDH. A great format. I use it in my Vig deck. Its great when you get dual vig and fable triggers once or more a turn, which can be often since the deck is all creatures/permanents sans Primal Surge The tokens are great for aggro that has access to many of green's overrun, pump and trample effects. Combine that with some flying owls and you've got a real fun card to use.
i think it would fit in a Animar deck looking for something else than Palinchron...
Maybe with an equilibrium and a cloud of faeries
I'm thinking Animar too...if you regularly get to the point where you want to cast this. It can be pretty nasty with Animar and something like Man-o'-War, AEther Adept, or Shrieking Drake, or just the usual Cloudstone Curio tricks. I can actually see Fable of Wolf and Owl being a decent backup wincon here.
It's one of those cards you look at and go, "I really want to play that" but you find that all the decks you'd want to put it in don't want it. I've hand one lieing around for ages.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
I actually ran one in Maelstrom Wanderer. The card is by no means super competetive, but it is so fun and amazing, which is the point of commander. If you are building Edric, USE IT!!!! It is also nice in Momir Vig

It's AWFUL expensive for Edric. If you're casting spells that cost more than 2 mana, they better be winning you the game (Overruns/Time Magic)

It's certainly possible to build an Edric deck that isn't made for sheer speed. Don't assume every Edric deck must be filled to the brim with evasive 1-2 drops.

Of course its possible, but you're not really using Edric's strengths then. If you wait until turn 4-5 to start dropping creatures you probably won't be drawing much with Edric because you will get wrathed continually. At that point you also won't have enough counterspells to stop that from happening. Edric's strength lies in starting with drawing multiple cards on turn 3 and then never tapping out again so that you can counter any wraths that come up and be so far ahead that by the time your opponents decks start running they won't catch up
On the card: cool card, but for 6 mana there are better options in general. Cool use for it though is to make infinite tokens with palinchron. It works well as a storm finisher in UG with stuff like palinchron or peregrine drake / cloud of faeries / cloudstone curio loops.
I'd seen this card before and though "huh, interesting." Then I was splaying the DLC Simic deck in DotP2013 which has Fable as an unlockable card. With the vast majority of spells in the deck being UG, Fable got out of hand extremely fast; basically, unless you've completely run out of gas, it wins you the game after resolving.
Notably, that's a game with 60-card decks and not EDH. Still, it seems like it could be very strong with a high concentration of UG spells (or combo, obv.)

Draft my Peasant Cube.
I've always felt the same way, and have also had trouble finding a home for it. Some sort of strange Jenara, Asura of War, Angus MacKenzie, or Rubinia Soulsinger staxish control deck with tools like Cloudstone Curio, Crystal Shard, and Erratic Portal and lots of cheap cantrips might want it. Dunno.
