It's my pleasure to welcome Devon Rule (obsidiandice) to the Rules Committee. His excellent insights on many discussions and his powerful commitment to the format's ideals distinguish him in the community. We know he'll be an outstanding addition to the RC.
If people are sick of reading about stuff just stop taking part. You have 100% control over what you read. Simic Ascendancy isn't going to get banned just because you didn't tell someone to shut up on the internet.
Couldn't think of any person better. When I read a post somewhere saying that the RC was considering adding a member, I immediatly knew it would be ObsDice.
As someone who knows Devon somewhat personally, I think this is an excellent choice. Not only is he knowledgable in the game, he's a very critical thinker when it comes to Magic.
On a selfish note: I am really excited to be able to discuss issues/philosophy with a member of the RC in person.
Edit: Seeing as how this is my 666th post, I feel it my duty to retire from MTGS. Goodbye, everyone.
Wow! I'm a bit surprised by the action (I don't actually know what the Committee turnover rate is, but assumed it was fairly constant), though I can't think of a person better suited to the task.
While I don't agree with all of his opinions, I respect how he concisely and accurately explains his positions on issues, and writes clear and direct arguments to support his position when debating it with other people.
There isn't much of a turnover. It's more like a lifetime appointment, and then if someone comes along who we think will be a great addition, we add them. There's actually only one person ever who retired from the RC.
Will his addition to the RC mean any philosophy/rules/banlist changes because of him effectively breaking a tie on points that the RC is currently divided on?

I believe that all disagreements in the RC are currently solved using a few rubber ducks, three toothbrushes and a copious amount of jell-o; the new addition would only mean adding more jell-o and maybe two or three extra rubber ducks.
Failing that, any internal disagreement can always be settled by rolling a dice... made of obsidian.
Gratz.
Thanks to Heroes of the Plane for the awesome Sig.

Less than that. I haven't been around that long, and I know of him. Alright, maybe a year.
