(My apologies if you posted to this thread last week, before it was removed. I never got to read any responses.)
If you aren't aware of the awesome things we do in the Digital Manipulation thread, you may want to go check it out.
Now, to my question: do you approve of using a custom foil general? For example, I have an Adun Oakenshield deck, and since he's on the reserved list, he will never ever be in regular-sized foil. So I learned how to make one.
If I sat down with this general, would you approve?
I've played some games where people were annoyed that it didn't look like the general it was, so they ignored it. "What do you mean, that's your Kaalia? I would have killed her!"
Does it matter if the card doesn't or won't exist in regular foil? I doubt I'll want to shell out for the Commander Arsenal versions of the precons' legends.
And before you ask, I keep my custom foil in an identical sleeve to the rest of the deck, with a regular version behind, in case of tuck effects. These are not proxies for cards I don't own--they are simply more cool versions.
I get a lot of reactions on my generals. I make them for others on rare occasions, but I've never sold or traded one.
I'd like to hear all sides--especially from those who disapprove in one way or another.
Thanks!
P.S. If you want to learn to make these, head to the Digital Rendering thread or go to my blog--I just did a step-by-step on making a sweet Doran.

I have 15 EDH decks...sorta kills the 'I only need one of a card' aspect of the format.
I went and started a Commander/EDH blog! Come see it at http://wordofcommander.blogspot.com/ and it includes all 15 of my custom super-art generals!

As I said in the other thread, I've no issues with someone using a custom art general..so long as they own an actual copy of their general. I usually don't make a big fuss over proxies, but at least try and have your general as an actual card.
You should definitely have an actual copy of the card when you play with proxies like that not only because people may complain that they don't know what your generals do but also because there may be times where you need to shuffle your general into your library and only very good proxies don't show up when shuffled in like that.
On the other hand having a foil full art proxied general is the only way to play Commander in my opinion.
i like custom cards, we allow them and use them a lot (most of my commander are custom, my Jasmine Boreal is actually a viking warrior princess) the only thing is that we must have an original copy somewhere for when we got new players, so they can see its not a cheat or something.
And btw, your Oakenshield is really nice!

As others stated, I really don't see an issue with using a proxy general, but like it was said, have a normal one available. What you're doing doesn't sound that different than using an altered general.
I don't mind if someone plays with a custom-art general, so long as they're not thicker than a regular foil (not asking much there) and use an identical sleeve.
Unless their "Custom art general" is some sort of hentai anime girl. Those people can go to hell.

I would love to have a custom art card in the same vein of art and style of the ones on your blog, which, by the way has been fun to read! - for Teneb. I tried to request in the Digital art thread but it seemed that Teneb wasn't a card anyone really wanted to do, lol. I would do it myself, but I don't have the time between two jobs and being a full-time parent. Still, if you sat down, I would have no problem!
That said, I believe my initial response was something to the effect of I wouldn't care if someone used a custom art card, though for tuck effects I'd prefer if they had the regular card on standby.
Brunhill, you should post your Viking Warrior Princess over in the Digitial Rendering thread.
Scott, if you PM me the art you want Teneb to have, I'll make a render for you, as long as I can put it up on the DR thread too. (Flattery gets you everywhere!)

Oh man, that would be awesome! I will ping you later on tonight when I get off work, I would really appreciate it
I'd be willing to bet that if Mimeoplasm is in there as a foil, the rest of the Precons will too.
Regular Kaalia is up to $7, I'd have to think that her Arsenal foil would be $10-$15.
People will price it high, to make their money back on the CA.
The only beef people have had is that they didn't understand it was the card, because it looks different. I sort of get that, but if I'm confused, I would ask!

Limited availability, popular commanders? I think their prices go higher than that.
The worst alternate art cards I have run into is people using My Little Pony cards for token creatures, and those really weren't that bad. I guess I may have just finally crossed into that age range where I am too old to get it, but I did kind of pause for a moment as this grown man pulled out these pink and purple pony cards after his Grave Titan came onto the battlefield.

Anyways... That custom general is absolutely is amazing and I fully support the use of something like that; whether you possess the original or not.
Also I've seen some of your other custom cards. Your Kraj and Yeva stood out for me as other awesome custom works.
This deck has been featured in Gathering Magic by Carlos Gutierrez
And thanks for the praise! I love Artgerm's work (the Yeva) and it took me FOREVER to find art I liked for the Kraj.

You said you have a real copy which meets my criteria for using proxies. I see a digital alter as exactly the same as an alter done by hand.

Pretty much this. Have a regular copy of the general just in case, but feel free to show off the bling.
I kinda want to get Kaalia altered. Unless she's in the Arsenal and doesn't end up stupid expensive...

I hate playing against people with those types of cards. They usually have neckbeards, smell bad, and the game starts to feel really awkward.
