Hi folks, thanks for taking the time to look at my thread. Here's the question:
I am thinking about buying a Gaea's Cradle for my Rith EDH deck. I own no shock lands, no duals, and a couple fetches. Should I buy the cradle or start investing in top level mana?
Gotta agree with TigerDriver here. If you plan to draft or buy a lot of RTR, go for that Cradle now. If you don't, then maybe saving for some better lands would be more important, but the real qestion is this: how well do your colors fix? If you're having no trouble, then the sheer output of Gaea's Cradle is more worth it, but if you need better fixing on those colors, shocks are way more important.
When saving up for your Cradle, make sure to save an extra 2 bucks for your Petrified Field, b/c there's nothing my opponants love more than blowing that thing up!
My big issue is that the type of decks that can and will run cradle are a bit limited. Its a solid land by all means but if you dont have a ton invested into your collection I dont know if it is the first place I would jump to.
Is it worth obtaining? Yes
Is it the first thing I would go spend that sort of money on? No

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
Gaea's Cradle is the single best land for decks with token themes. In every deck I put it in, it was the best card. Most games became "How can I get Cradle out now?"

I think I've built one, maybe two green decks ever that couldn't take massive advantage of Cradle. (Those would be Damia, who was creature-light control, and Bartel Runeaxe, who ran mostly expensive creatures and thus rarely had more than a few out at a time)
It's also a very unique effect. Buying a dual gives you slightly better mana fixing (especially with a full array of fetches). Buying a Cradle gives you a significant ramping option.

Cradle is a land with a very powerful effect that interacts well with other lands. While I use duals and fetches, I have found that it is not necessary in EDH to have them. Cradle, on the other hand, has a home in quite a few decks and works wonders with mana reflection and any card that untaps cradle.

So I have a somewhat but not really divergent question:
The deck that I would get Cradle for is Yeva, but only Savra has a shock and the rest of my decks have random things I've scrounged together; would you still say spring for a Cradle in my case?
I guess it depends on how much I like each deck, etc...

I think so, yes. It really depends on how smoothly all of your decks play, however. If all of your decks run relatively fine as they are, then a cradle will ratchet your Yeva deck into overdrive. I actually think that it would be pretty good in your savra list as well, based on just glancing at it.

Yeah... only Drana, Yeva, and Olivia are really actually "built" to any sort of playable degree, and even then only the first two are vaguely in the ball park of what I have posted on Sally. Olivia's due for a rehaul or maybe even a retirement anyway...
But like was mentioned on the first page, shocklands are being reprinted, enemy fetches are still cheap-ish, so yeah I probably spring for a Cradle if I can.
...But Yeva and Savra? Two copies of a $70 card? Ha. Ha. You're funny.

I figured it would probably be easier to spring for an expensive card if it feasibly fits in more than one deck, if you are ok with switching it between decks that is.
I also noticed the majority of your Savra deck looks to be incomplete unless online. Cockatrice copies of cradle are pretty cheap.

That's true, or I could... wait, can we even talk about proxies anymore? Bleh.
Yeah, I have a ton of ideas or lists I want to try out, but nowhere near enough cash, or even time for Cockatrice. And yes, Cradle on Cockatrice is quite cheap.

Cards like Gaea's Cradle, Primeval Titan, Earthcraft, and Doubling Season will make a far bigger difference to your Rith deck than upgrading your Karplusan Forest and Rootbound Craig to Stomping Ground and Taiga.

That deck gets the Cradle.
Token decks tend to use Cradle to 'go off'...make three tokens, then tap Cradle to make three more, that sot of thing.
