I am thinking about removing Artisan of Kozilek from my deck. He fits the theme nicely, but he's just way too expensive for what he does. I'm thinking of using Havengul Lich in his place. Am I crazy for thinking this?
not at all. people call me crazy because i dont run primetime in my ghave deck all the time. i just dont have the room for 6cmc spells that only produce 1 creature in that deck.

I imagine this is the Mimeoplasm deck? I'd say you're almost certainly not crazy. There are tons of other spells that can get you a body from grave for cheap. Granted they won't come equipped with a 10/9, but you would still have 7 to use for anything else. Say maybe a havengul lich!
I can say with certainty that I have not played Artisan of Kozilek in like well over a year. He is very expensive to cast and very dependant on having something good to rez in my mind. He can be alright in some decks but I would say he is probably not good in more decks than he is good in.
I have been on a lower my average cc kick though so a 9 mana spell better well damn near win me the game in my opinion. When comparing him up against things like Time Stretch, Insurrection, Decree of Pain, and Tooth and Nail he really seems to fall flat in my opinion.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.

You are crazy dude lol.
To the op, go ahead and switch artisan out with something else for a few games. What i do when i remove a card in my deck is whenever i draw the replacement, ask myself if the other card would have been better in the situation and if you want to tutor for it at all.
Yeah, Artisan is very underwhelming IMHO. there are plenty of things (Insurrection, Rite of Replication kicked) you can do with that much mana that will either win you the game on the spot, or get you pretty close to it.
@Genra
I'm pretty sure cutting Primetime in a deck that;
a) has green and
b) uses mana
is pretty much strictly wrong.

And that's it folks. Thread's question has been answered. Nothing left to see here. Move along.

You have to CAST him, so you can't abuse him with any reanimation stuff. Big drag here. He's probably best in a Jhoria deck or something. But I probably wouldn't waste the slot on him.
Nah, he's janky in plenty of decks. I think I have 5 green decks I can run him in and he's only good enough for 2. He's a 6 mana ramp spell which isn't the first thing I look for in my green decks.

I agree that he's much better in multi-colored decks that don't ramp as much as your typical mono-green, which often has half its manabase on the table and no cards in hand trying to topdeck a Terastodon just stay alive.

I ran him in a deck that could really use the board presense, reanimation, use his actual casting cost and his P/T but he's too much mana for the effect, somebody else pointed out what else you can cast for 9 mana which wins. He isn't terrible but high cmc cards need to justify themselves and are high on the getting cut radar.
Given up magic because a)its a waste of money b)it sucks the joy out of life c)im doing more interesting things than tapping pieces of plastic that have no intrinsic value.
I encourage you to do the same. Instead of FNM try Friday Night Something Spontaneous. Instead of thousands of hours and dollars on plastic imagine it with a significant other or friends sharing something meaningful. I randomly typed a new password, so bon voyage itches i encourage you to follow suit! Cheers
Play Karmic Guide/Phyrexian Delver instead for the same effect, or tooth and nail for the same amount as artisan to win the game. Sure the artisan is enormous, but without evasion, that 10 isnt going anywhere, even with the annihilator.
I used it before in a riku ramp+big dudes deck, and it provides me a scary board state for 9GGUU (artisan + reanimated fatty and a clone of each). but then again your millage may differ...
Do note that even though u cant abuse it by cheating it unto play, when you do cast it, you get a nigh-uncounterable reanimation effect that isnt restricted to any color. for mineoplasm it boost 10 +1/+1 counters, which isnt to bad.
Primeval Titan just gets way too many good things to not be played. Personally, the red, green and white hide aways work well. Also, maze of ith and vesuva copying maze of ith is sweet. Also, inkmoth nexus and kessig wolf run.
On topic though, I definitely agree with all that has been said above.

I keep him because a 14/14 Skithyrix or a 15/12 Putrefax tend to end games pretty damn fast.
