this is a question i ask myself about godo all the time. obviously running boots is a must in that deck, as the haste is very useful as well. having 10 mana up and threatenning a hasty godo with potential sword / exoskeleton equip does all sorts of things to make people play around you.
but do you run darksteel plate as well? i've had it in the deck on and off. i'll be curious to see where this thread goes.
well in my meta, neither is that useful since we usually use sac effects like fleshbag maruader, smokestack etc. to deal with threatening creatures
I personally prefer indestructibility to shroud allowing me to use my utility creatures as defenders
shroud/hexproof all the way for me. seriously, it eliminates some of the more nastier things that can happen to your creatures, which is tuck, exile, and control magic. (yes, i do realize that hallowed burial and final judgment are cards). indestructible is nice, but the only wrath "protection" i ever want is cards like greater good, cauldron of souls, or fecundity

In voltron... Probably hex proof because you want your general out fast and early, where he'll be more likely to bite it to a doom blade then a damnation
In a graveyard deck. Who cares, I'll get it back later
In control. Who cares, I'm countering it anyway.
In aggro. Probably wrath protection... On a mass level. Something like eldrazi monument.

The EDH stax primer When you absolutely, positively got to kill every permanent in the room, accept no substitutes.
If I had to pick one, I would pick shroud. That means that your guy could die to a wipe, but so does everyone else's. Reverse the situation and you have an indestructible guy where someone can pick him off with spot removal such as swords to plowshares, path to exile, oblation, chaos warp. If you can run both, even better.
To add more to this, I would throw in recursion before protection such as indestructibility. Why? Recursion can get you a creature back that you want at the right time (and often time someone elses: animate dead). Indestructibility and recursion both fail to help out exiles and tucks, but recursion can also help when things are being sacrificed.

If i was playing a creature based deck indestructible might be better, make them think twice before *** all your creatures away, if not make them blow up the whole world. However if this creature is your general and you are afraid it will be put on the bottom of the library, play shroud. I only run lightning greaves i my decks, because it also gives haste. Darksteel Plate is too expensive in most of my decks.
None of the above, if i really want to protect a creature I would use counter spells. (Im talking in terms of 1v1 as this gets difficult with more opponents). I'd also like to second the recursion idea, bringing it back with Reanimate or Nim Deathmantle is a valid plan too.
First thing(s) I get in my Kemba deck if my options are limited to Protection are Darksteel Plate and Shield of Kaldra. Indestructible is underrated. After that i'll kanoodle out Swiftfoot boots.

1. Make it survive a wrath effect by making it indestructible.
or
2. Make it untargetable by granting it Shroud/Hexproof/Protection.
Beyond that, if I am running white, black, or green, it's generally easier to recur than to try to protect from wrath effects.
