So I recently built a Sedris deck with a ETB theme, but Im finding that I rarely cast him, if at all. In theory he seems great for ETB effects, but i feel like he is better in an aggro build where you actually want to cast him turn 6, rather than wait to get additional card advantage out of say, your ETB creatures (which was what I was doing). In general though, the cost of unearth seems too high for my liking.
I have Garza Zol and Thraximundar in mind and they both seem equally good for different reasons. They both have haste, so I know Ill get immediate value rather than having to untap with Sedris. Difference is, Garza is more evasive and nets me card advantage, but Thraxi edicts when he attacks and gets bigger as a result. Im leaning heavily towards Garza, but I'd like any kind of advice from experienced grixis players.
To be blunt, the colors are competitive but the commanders are not. Thraximundar is your best bet as he's a 3 hit kill for general damage much of the time, after him garza zol, plague queen since she also generates CA, but is two turns slower for the kill on her own.
Yea thrax is the **** mate. Check out my sig for my list. I like to play patiently with him attempting to control the board befinally dropping him and killing people
I figure Ill just try out both Thrax and Garza since both are compelling generals. Moreover, I havent been too much of a blue player up to this point, and with Animar decks really giving me trouble, I figure Ill need to include more blue in the list im making. Question is now whether I want the nice edict effect Thrax gives me or the cards that Garza does.
thrax 100% no contest, especially in a control build.
'course.. maybe in some wonky combo deck garza could shine, idk
my buddy runs thrax in a blue-based control deck, with light recursion, but most of the time he just buries people with card advantage
