I have an elf tribal deck that can generate silly amounts of mana and Gen Wave is one of my favorite things to cast with it. Most of this is because I run a majority of creatures and other permanents, so I don't often miss with it.
That being said, I have seen it cast and whiff miserably, which is really annoying if it ends up binning a lot of good spells, since in green it's somewhat difficult to get back stuff from the yard.
Green is actually really good at getting stuff back from the yard. That is one of it's strengths in the color pie. Praetor's Counsel, all suns' dawn, creeping renaissance (not so great with a whiffed g-wave, but still), recollect, deadwood treefolk, restock, eternal witness, etc etc.

"I will flay the skin from your flesh and the flesh from your bones and scrape your bones dry. And still you will not have suffered enough." -Greven il-Vec, to Gerrard
I have four green EDH decks and none of them run Genesis Wave. I don't think it's a bad card, but I would rather get a concrete effect for my large amount of mana. I don't like paying ten mana and probably winning. I like playing 9 mana into one spell to win the game or play card draw into one of my 'budget' (five or less mana) spells.
Once Mayael gets past her initial round of testing (just built the deck, need to playtest) I will probably have something to cut for Genesis Wave, but I was having trouble fitting cards in before I remembered Genesis Wave, so I decided to hold off on it for this round of testing.
I run it in Riku, and it adores it to no end. Go ahead and ramp for ridiculous mana, then cheat 40 things into play with one spell. Almost any green deck benefits from it. Even if you can only make X a small number, it can still be good.
^ THIS ^
I put Anger into my Riku deck specifically so I could bin it after a huge Genesis Wave (it is a "may" ability). So, ramp tons of mana and then Wave for a bajillion, copy the Wave, then swing.
So much fun, and since it isn't some silly infinite combo, it is much less hated at the tables.
PS: For the 2nd to resolve, any lands you put into play are untapped ready to copy things entering the battlefield.
I also have always liked what I see off of Genesis Wave. On occasion, it hasn't been enough for me to win (like when I cast it while far behind; it brings me up to par with the leader, but it's too late), but I still like the card.
I did like the one time I responded to G-wave with a Gather Specimens, and my opponent didn't RTFC to see putting in the cards was a "may" ability.
I have to agree really. If you're at the point where you can cast Genesis Wave, then you should really only need 2 of your best creatures to put together a proper wincon - Vigor or Avenger or whatever. Paying 9 mana for Tooth and Nail as opposed to 6 cards turned over looking for fatties is almost strictly inferior really. Sure, you can do crazy things with it with loads of mana, but that is true of thousands of other cards. I'd consider running it if I could be assured of having already cast and resolved Trench Gorger, but there are no such assurances.
Why not run both? I mean, I know it's very easy to keep the Tooth and Nail in your lap until 9 mana, but sometimes, you just naturally draw one and not the other.
Going from zero board presence to having over 400 attacking power and killing everyone at the table in one turn is something that genesis wave accomplishes.
I don't know, I actually cut the Wave from my deck because it comes out as a 'win-more' effect to me. By the time the Wave becomes lethal I usually (and my opponents, too) have too many resources available, especially the Blue players. Yet it reeks of potential, and I have no idea whether to run it or not.

I have started using this card in almost every deck that uses green. What I end up pulling out of my decks with it isn't any flashy but it is still really fun.
There was a player who dropped Hive Mind and for fun, I dropped a 28 point Genesis Wave.
It was one crazy game!

This lol. The cards do different things. The comparison in this thread doesn't make much sense.
Stack the triggers the other way, so that you draw from Regal *then* put your plants into play?
