Assuming no combos here, what do you think is the best finisher?
Obviously there are a ton of awesome creatures in EDH, but I would have a hard time picking anything but Avenger of Zendikar.
I've won more games with Avenger than I have with just about any other creatures, even in decks with Eldrazi, combo finishes, or just about any other "fat" traditional EDH style finisher.
Either people wrath, have instant speed removal BEFORE landfall starts triggering, or they're just going to be overwhelmed.

I would have to say Akroma, Angel of Wrath just because it is easy to underestimate what exactly she is doing. Avenger is sort of like everyone panics and hits the wrath button. Akroma doesn't pull that response as often as she doesn't scream you are dead. Instead she doubles as an amazing attacker and blocker all at the same time. Plus haste gives immediate results.
Sure Avenger and the eldrazi are splashier but she has immediate results and doesn't stir as strong of a reaction from opponents which I like.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
A Devasting Summons before mass LD can be absolutely brutal. Sacrificing your lands to a Greater Gargadon also is a good way to bounce back, especially if you play something like Ruination.
Dragon Tyrant. Hits for 26 if you untapped with him and get your land drip. That's 26 flying trample!
Lord of Extinction is another good one. I've one shotted many people with this guy. Late game it's going to be huge and it works best after a wrath and lightning greaves. There are of course many ways to give it evasion, but the bottom line is that it will do a whole lot of damage for 5 mana!
Oh yeah, and swinging with Chameleon Colossus when you have a lot of mana doublers is excellent too. One time I managed to swing for 8192 with trample. Can't get too much more satisfying than that :P.
You guys are expecting your opponents to let you play those. Let's realistically name creatures that would resolve and live for more than a turn. Your not in a dream world.
In our games, Dark Confidant, Trinket Mage, Mishra's Factory live the longest because their low mana cost.
I've killed many people with the 3 creatures I've mention above.

Are you suggesting that you've seen more players killed with Trinket Mage than you have with Avenger of Zendikar? I don't think so.
Avenger is the best creature finisher, hands down.
Why would your table let you untap with that out? Bad magic players right there. I've seen 1 person die to Avenger of Zendikar because we only have 4 counter spells on the table and he had 5, d'oh.
I've killed 2 people in the last 2 weeks with Trinket Mage over my big creatures. Ulamog or Magister Sphinx barely finishes off people now.

The playgroup can't have an answer for every single threat that can possibly rear its ugly head, every time.
I played this for a while, but was never able to cast it before I was down around 10 or so. It's better in theory than in practice at least 90% of the time.

Good Magic players don't tend to let Dark Confidant live for long either, so what does that say about your group?

In a hard-core control deck your general is often the best finisher. I have won many games beating face with Jhoira of the Ghitu, Dralnu, Lich Lord or Grand Arbiter Augustin IV.
Blightsteel Collosus after a Cataclysm is brutal.

Anyhow, I am going to echo the sentiment of Blightsteel Colossus and Avenger of Zendikar. The Mimeoplasm is also usually a one-shot in my experience.
