The inspiration for this thread is from another forum member's signature I saw in which he quotes another forum member as saying something like "playing a turn one Serra Ascendant is basically like saying kill me so I can go trade." I thought that was pretty funny, but I'm sure we all realize the truth of it. There are simply some cards that, if played early on, will just scream "hit me! hit me!!" to other players at the table.
Probably the big thing someone can do in my playgroup to guarantee being on the receiving end of a 5-colour enema is throwing down a turn 2 Luminarch Ascension. I've started quite a few games with Luminarch Ascension in my hand only to not play early on for fear of reprisal. Despite the fact that I don't think anyone who's done that in my group has ever gotten a table kill that way, people just start frothing at the mouth and crying "CRUCIFY HIM!" when they see it.
Heck, some cards with relatively high casting costs will inspire some pretty severe vitriol if they're played the first turn they can be brought in. I once threw down a turn seven Akroma's Memorial with a whopping 2 creatures, only to be hated out from full life to dead before my turn came again.
Of course, a large part of these kinds of plays are pure politics, where other players say "this is what that card CAN do, if you give him an inch, he'll take a mile." Sure, Akroma's Memorial can turn your board into the Cloverfield monster if left unchecked, but having two creatures out is hardly dangerous, even with it. My playgroup is currently doing something where we all bring decks, they're vetted by a third party who isn't playing to make certain they're all an even power level, and then we roll dice to see who plays which deck without any knowledge of what the deck is before hand. I was given an Arcum Dagsson deck to play. I got hated out from the very first land drop, and I barely knew how to play the deck!
So, the question is, what cards get you killed where you play if you drop them too early?
I try to aim for people who play Top early, just for a reason to hit someone "politically".
Crucible of Worlds gets me hated really fast, because they all assume I'm gonna landwipe soon, which is somewhat fair. I play it just to play something for the turn, which I end up finding is the wrong play if I don't have an immediate wipe. It's also great counter bait though.
Scroll rack is the big one where I play. People assume whoever has the rack essentially has access to whatever cards they want. That and ramp early game, especially Sol Ring turn 1.
The problem with defining [EDH] by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Moat. For some reason, for even those that it actually helps them out, it suddenly makes me primary enemy number one because i didn't let sir elfball over there win on turn 4.
I've only seen it happen once in a game (wasn't me who did it), but that card just isn't meant for games where you start with 30 or more life.
Heh, a few months ago I built a monowhite board wipe deck with Konda as my general. I was playing a buddy who I believe was running Naya. I got turn one Serra Ascendant three games in a row.
I have to say Bribery gets some attention. But to these meta games who jump on people in an MP game who cast Serra Ascendant I have to laugh. I would never start blowing my resources on what is really just an overgrown vanilla creature. It isn't anything spectacular, and and I wouldn't bother going after anyone specifically because they played a card. That is playing stupidly and very much like a beginner.
Now, if that said card is keeping me from winning, or possibly causing me to lose or put that opponent in such a state I can't win, then something needs to be done. But I never am like "ZOMG HE PLAYED THIS CARD HE MUST BE UP TO SOMEZHIIING!"
Every rarity gets good cards. That means that some mythic rares will be tournament quality as will some commons, some uncommons and some rares. My promise wasn't that mythic rares wouldn't get good cards but that we wouldn't limit the good cards to only being mythic rare.
Bear this in mind the next time a powerful mythic rare is spoiled

I'd have to agree with luminarch ascension. By the time it gets back to you, it is already active, and you can start making angel tokens right away. It is even more absurd if you have mana acceleration. If your opponents don't have removal for it, they are in a world of hurt. It will probably single-handily take out a player, and probably do a ton of damage to the other players as well. The longer it stays on the board, the more likely you are to win the game.
I believe that I have enough social competence to slip into a party or two, potentially wooing some attractive females that would not mind spending the evening performing the booty dance on me.
Sol Ring.
Mana Crypt.
Of all things, Ertai, Wizard Adept gets me hated out.
I'm like WTF, it lets me counter 1 spell per turncycle people, is it really that bad?
On the other hand, if I steal a seedborn muse afterward, I win >_>
But still, its not that bad. I don't get why people hate me out for him.
Sword of Feast and Famine. That any utility dude like Pilgrim's eye can suddenly turn into a major nightmare for the table speaks volumes about how ridiculous this card is.
Turn one Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle in mono-red can also cause people to start looking for their land destruction.
Artifact accel gets you hated pretty fast in my playgroup unless its something stupid like T2 signets or the Borderpost cycle.
best T1 aggro draw ever: Island->Sol Ring->Mana Vault->Mind Stone->Sky Diamond->Overkill
T2:Island -> Patron Wizard
cards that get you hated:
luminarch ascension (especially when you t1 sol ring and t2 demonic tutor into it)
rhystic study
grim feast
t3 darksteel forge
puppeteer clique (maybe this is my groupthink speaking. i play clique multiple times a game, which they seem to not like. )
oh, and general jhoira gets you instant freaking hate. the problem is, it's not her, per se, but what cards you suspend when someone tries to kill her.

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for the winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came and the grasshopper died and the octopus ate all his acorns. And also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?

Surprisingly, Top gets practically no hate from my playgroup. We just let people do their thing.
Although one time I was playing a 1V1 game, my opponent dropped turn one Sensei's Divining Top, turn two Counterbalance, turn three Semblance Anvil exiling an artifact creature, turn four Arcanis the Omnipotent. I didn't stand a chance.

Certain combos draw a ton of hate too. Sakura-Tribe Elder/Fulminator Mage/Fertilid into Coffin Queen/Mimic Vat/Skullclamp tends to be enough to draw most of the table's hate pretty quickly.
