So I've searched and found plenty of info on most powerful generals, most fun generals to play as, ect, but nothing on this, so I thought I'd start a thread.
Basically I was wondering, when you sit down across the table from someone or a group of someones, what generals do you like to see across the table from you that guarantee that you're going to have a fun game?
I'm asking because my group is getting into edh (we'll be getting the precons, of course, but for those of us who like building decks, we want to get started but don't want to waste money on decks that don't provide the maximum fun per dollar for our playgroup. (Casual to semi competitive, no group hugs because everybody is in it to win, but not at the expense of everyone else having a good time.)
Anyways, let the debate begin and thanks for any and all advice in advance!
I love playing my friends Norin the Wary deck. always a blast when he gets it going. However, I know plenty of my other friends do not enjoy playing against Norin the Wary.

I wouldn't say there is a particular general that is universally the most fun to play against. There are a few certain things, however, that most people hate playing against, namely heavy control, mass land destruction, lockdown generals, and, for some, infinite combos. If you avoid these things, most people will enjoy themselves.
For me, I don't really care if I lose if the winner wins in an "EDH moment," so-to-speak. Casting a Radiate on a kicked Rite of Replication is so amazingly flashy that I would be laughing too hard to care. That being said, I'm not unhappy when I lose to random aggro decks or whatever, but there is a certain "LOL you deserved that" when these EDH moments happen.
Nothing is more fun than the table acceleration and likewise crazy interactions that her ability provides. She's the ulitimate group hug general.
Edit: and she's still perfectly viable to win with. When built and played right, Braids gives advantage to you much more than it lends advantage to your opponents

That about sums it up - those moments when someone pulls off a 'monster move' (or manage to turn around such a move in his favor, say by casting Flurry of Wings followed by a Fog effect when the combo player charges with half a billion of tokens) bring the kick to EDH rounds.
I'm always happy to run into exotic or unusual generals. Phelddagrif? Cool! Atalya, Samite Master? Hell yeah! Shauku, Endbringer? Mind if I read that card?
Definitely more unusual generals. If I see someone pull out Azami, Uril, or Zur, I've got a pretty good idea of what the deck is going to do, where to hit it to try and keep it from doing that, and the game isn't nearly as interesting. When you pull out someone new, the game is much more interesting.

I agree with whats been said about the unusual generals, they make the game more interesting and random. A fun one i recently put together is Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker... although the one player I hit after i combo off on isn't happy but its fun to see a deck with all 1/x creatures all of the sudden have no hand and can;t draw an answer ( Thoughtpicker Witch for the win)

urg, I'm going to respectfully disagree, braids is one of my least favorite generals to play against. And I don't think I've ever seen her win, either.
weirdly enough, what I like playing against is often the opposite of what I like to play with. Basically I like playing against decks which are low on surprises, but I like having tons of surprises in my own decks. Go figure. Although I hate playing against and with braids. Hate, hate hate hate hate. Hate.
The one time I played against phelddagrif was probably one of the most fun games I've ever had. Group hug is certainly an interesting archetype.
It gets old really fast if you play it too often. I aim for Group Hug as fast as possible because one person can abuse it better than anyone else and unless that person is you it's a groaner. Hell, even if you are the one who drops a turn 3 Primeval Titan and turn 4 Avenger of Zendikar AND Akroma's Memorial it's stupid.
I love playing against the Planar Chaos Dragons. The spectrum of spells that Wedges bring to the table is pretty crazy. There is beauty in a deck that uses a ton of enemy colored spells that go together really well even though they don't seem like it at first.
I agree that unusual generals are the most fun to play/play against. I always had a blast playing against my friend's Sygg, River Guide aura deck or his Thada Adel, Acquisitor mono blue aggro deck. The main part I find fun about playing against generals is how often I played against them. That's why exotic generals are more fun in my opinion. I even had fun playing against Arcum Dagsson prison the first couple times I played against it. A deck can be fun to play agianst just for being quircky even if the general is a common one. I had a blast playing aginst my buddy's Horde of Notions Hypergenesis/Living End cascade deck.
If they're going to print old flavor bad cards, I think they should reprint Yawgmoth's Bargain. It wouldn't even see play, since at 6 mana, you want to affect the board immediatly and play a super good Titan that taps permanent down. And I mean, wth? It makes you lose life and your free draw each turn. It would just be another junk mythic with all the morons saying "bad in constructed, but will fit right in my X edh deck."
Another fun deck ive seen is a mon-blue deck whose main goal is to use the blue-epic spell, it runs only 3-4 counter spells other than that the "fun" spells that describe blue and as for the general you just randomly pick one of your blue legendaries from the deck
I know a lot of people hate him, but I'm always glad to see Gaddock Teeg. Not having to worry about most extra turn cards or land destruction is just fantastic.
Since my play group is just getting into EDH, I'm not going to worry about being too original and I'll just go with Kresh or Rafiq (since I know that Thraximundar's sac effect would at least piss off my girlfriend and she'll end up turning the whole table against me.)
For a second deck for the LGS, though, maybe Jareth, Leonine Titan? Seems like he's not exactly the most popular cat on the block... That or Isperia the Inscrutable...
If youre looking for fun to play against I gotta say neither Kresh and ESPECIALLY not Rafiq. Both end up being extremely predictable goodstuff lists in most cases and end up ruining everyone's day by being extremely hardcore.
Jareth would be fun to play against (if you were asking me) since I'd have no idea what to expect. The Isperia deck my friend has is very combo-centric so Im not sure if it's one to judge them by or not since it's the only one I've ever played against.
One general I had MASSIVE fun playing against was another friend's Seshiro the Anointed Snakes on a Plane tribal deck. It made me laugh so hard when he dropped a turn 1 Marsh Boa after the Glissa the Traitor player opened with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
I'm also always really happy to sit down across from my friend's Razia, Boros Archangel deck, it's extremely interactive and just plays the game to the fullest with huge splashy spells all over the place.
I have a Sedris, the Traitor King deck that I loan out to my friends in the playgroup just because it's such a blast to play against. It has no countermagic at all (blue's in there for extra draw), plays somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 creatures, and just does absolutely wacky things (Tunnel Vision as a tutor, for instance!)
Who thought control decks with 45 creatures could work?
EDIT: Also Morality Shift. Morality Shift is BEAST in there.
I believe that Braids, Conjurer Adept is one of the best generals to play against. Free drops are always nice, and since she's a creature, it can be very easy to determine who gets a "Braids trigger" during their upkeep if you have a kill spell in hand.
I also like playing against Mayael the Anima. One of my friends has a Mayael deck that can get Ulamog and Kozilek out turn four. It's even better when he's playing against the Braids deck.
