Was it Legends with its intorduction of well... legends and classic general like Nicol Bolas and Pheldagrif?
Alara with its tri-color lands and multi-color madness?
I would argue (with not much perspective) that the mirrodin block gave us alot of staples and artifact shenanigans, and contributed the most. You have the "becon", "dawn bringer", and "shards" cycles and alot of mana stones. You have Barter in Blood, Skullclamp, Memnarch, Crucible of Worlds, Duplicant, Door to Nothingness...

Actually, we do have a similar thread a while back which you would find here where many, many players argued to great effects that it was the Mirrodin block. Personally, I favour the mechanically broken Urza block with all its combo components, free mechanics, broken legendary lands, etc. but that's just me

Phelddagrif is not from Legends, it's from Alliances
I think Ravnica and Mirrodin are two of the most important blocks. Planar Chaos gets honorable mention due to the enemy-tricolor generals.
I would put Chaos well above Ravnica. It gave us way better and way more generals and cards like Damnation.
Thanks for the correction.
BTW... I checked the old thread, and it seems like they are discussing something similar, but not the same. Many are talking about thier personal favorites instead of what contributed the most.

If I were to list them, I'd argue that these three are the biggest contributors. Not in any particular order, mind you:
Mirrodin - Equipment, for one. Outside equipment you get gems like Tooth and Nail, Isochron Scepter, Reap and Sow, Barter in Blood.
Kamigawa - Tons of powerhouse cards for all colors. Multiple legends that are quite good (Dragon legends, Meloku, AZAMI, Hidetsugu, Kumano, a few others) as well as many powerful utility cards: SDT, Jitte, Kodama's Reach, Sakura-Tribe Elder, Hinder, Nezumi Graverobber.
Ravnica - Decent legends, fairly powerful utility spells. Mostly contributed massive mana fixing with shocks, karoos and signets.
Time Spiral should be on any honourable mentions list - the off-colour effects from Plana Chaos and niche effects in Future Sight provide crucial cards to many mono-colour decks. There's also the dragons, the three Magi cycles allowing players to get effects like Moat and The Abyss without having to sell kidneys, and Coalition Relic.
Zendikar and Alara have a lot of great EDH cards too. Newer blocks usually give us the most in terms of creatures and generals, while the older ones provide the best utility cards.
Also, Revised is worth mentioning just for giving us an affordable Sol Ring, among other things.

From the mind of Raymond Swanland: Valla, a plane made entirely out of brownish spikes.
Alpha. Because it gave us cards like Island and Swamp. I'de say without that, we would be still, well... collecting pokemon. Or rather we would have fallen into a massive depression over baseball cards until pokemon was released, and THEN collected them all
On a serious note: Mirrodin. Definitely by far gave people a lot of utility, deck power, and card advantage. So so so so much creativity went into designing Mirrodin that it can only really shine in a format like EDH. (or Legacy, come on. Who still plays that)
Though i think a block worth mentioning is definitely the Kamigawa block. It may have ruined Standard for most of us, but it gave EDH a TON of sweet generals and staples.
EDH:
Currently Piloting:
Dama, Sage of Stone | Karador, Ghost Chieftan | Sigarda, Host of Herons | Elbrus, the Binding Blade / Withengar Unbound | Grand Arbiter Augustin IV | Genju of the Realm | Ruric Thar, the Unbowed

I would easily argue shards block, if only for the tons of awesome generals it gave us...sharuum, kresh, karthus, uril, mayael, thraximundar, rafique...just to name a couple. Can you picture edh without these guys?
Zendikar and Alara have a lot of great EDH cards too. Newer blocks usually give us the most in terms of creatures and generals, while the older ones provide the best utility cards.
40 out of 79 cards in my EDH deck are from Lorwyn on. Including such gems as Terestodon, Woodfall Primus, Avenger of Zendikar, Oracle of Mul Daya, and my general Omnath.
Id say for sheer power Urza's and Mirrodin blocks were huge contributors to EDH so many free spells and cheap bomby cards.
Honorable mention for me has to go to Tempest block I find that every time I decide to build a deck I find myself staring at the prospect of having to buy some very powerful and very expensive cards from that block survival, oath, hatred, mind over matter, dominating licid, erratic portal, wasteland, mox diamond, recycle and so many more. Mostly blue and green stuff but there's bombs spread across all colors and artifacts in that block

From MaRo
Every rarity gets good cards. That means that some mythic rares will be tournament quality as will some commons, some uncommons and some rares. My promise wasn't that mythic rares wouldn't get good cards but that we wouldn't limit the good cards to only being mythic rare.
Bear this in mind the next time a powerful mythic rare is spoiled

I would have to say that Mirrodin would be at or very near the top. The_Grey_King said: Mirrodin - Equipment, for one. Outside equipment you get gems like Tooth and Nail, Isochron Scepter, Reap and Sow, Barter in Blood. I also would say Solemn Simulacrum, Duplicant, Extraplanar Lens, Sculpting Steel, and Gilded Lotus
Any set after Mirrodin has been decent. (5th Dawn still had Beacons, Bringers, All Suns Dawn, Acquire, Crucible of Worlds, Mephidross Vamp, Witness, Shackles, Trinket Mage, others I'm sure)
I'm a big fan of multicolored decks, so I'd have to give nods to Ravinca block and Alara block. Ravinca would probably beat out Alara, due to the enemy color stuff in there.
Was it alpha/beta/unlimited? With its classics such as Demonic Tutor, Armegeddon, Counterspell, ect...
Was it Legends with its intorduction of well... legends and classic general like Nicol Bolas and Pheldagrif?
Alara with its tri-color lands and multi-color madness?

I draft and play EDH. If a Standard player can't understand who a card is for, it's probably for me.
I also write things about good films.
