Hello fair people, I am currently working on a mono back deck, which is currently just goodstuff.dec, so I have been looking at spicing it up with a few combo. The general is Maga, Traitor to Mortals, here is a few thats floating around, does anyone have other good idea?
These are the ones I want to implement: Blood Tribute + Wound Reflection. It's expensive, but a instant kill. Bitterblossom + Contamination. Classic soft lock. Leyline of the void + Helm of Obedience.Instant mill.
I am not sure if I should add the typical artifact infinite mana combo with the rings and a monolith. So pretty much, I was wondering if there are any other groovy combo I can add? It would help if the cards are good by themselves, but not really needed.
Here's how it works: Play the Egg, imprinting Phage. Use Totem twice, targeting first the egg, then a permanent of the opponent you want to kill (make sure they don't have 5 mana open). The abilities resolve in reverse order: the totem exchanges with your opponent's permanent, then the Egg exchanges with the Totem. Kill the egg, and your opponent flips Phage, and puts it onto the battlefield under their control, killing them.
As a connoisseur of fun, interesting matches, I still to this day have not been able to craft that "perfect deck"; the deck that I can play and have fun over time, doesn't get boring, but simultaneously is fun to play against. I honestly don't think it exists. It's like a unicorn. A ninja unicorn.
Repay in Kind might be a good replacement/supplement for Blood Tribute, and it's spectacular by itself. It will easily put people in range of a more traditional Maga finish, as well.
While we're on the topic of Wound Reflection, you might consider adding Temporal Extortion. It's a solid card in its own right, but being able to "surprise"-kill someone by dropping Wound Reflection after they pay half their life total is priceless.
Lastly, I think MCR has been having some success with the Cabal Coffers + Deserted Temple + Rings of Brighthearth infinite mana combo as a finisher. MBC decks usually play Coffers and Temple anyway, and Rings of Brighthearth can be randomly good with planeswalkers, fetchlands and such.
Magus of the Coffers+Umbral Mantle=Infinite black mana. Emrakul, the aeons torn + Erratic Portal= Infinite turns is you have 16 mana.
You could just use Sorin instead of Blood Tribute. I have a mono-black controlish deck that has a few combos in it. If you want I could post for you. If you want some ideas. My general is Maga too.
To uberdylan: That is freaking awesome! Very over the top, and uses pieces people wouldn't see coming.
To d0su: Temporal Extortion is on my list to get, and I had completely forgot about Repay in Kind. They will be heading into to the deck, as soon as I can get them, in addition to Blood Tribute. I still think Blood Tribute is to good to pass up, as it puts them in easy Maga distance. I knew about coffers, but I didn't know about the temple. Seems a good excuse to add rings as well :).
To Defenestrate Windows: The mantle/magus combo is pretty awesome, and the Emmy/Erratic is fantastic as well, I'll see what I can do with them ;). Or I could use Sorin in addition to blood tribute, for extra fun :D. I wouldn't mind see the decklist, if you don't mind. Side note: You throw windows out of windows? Must be hard
Onyx Talisman is fairly nutty in mono black with coffers. You just start to play spells, and end up netting MORE mana then you started with! Add in something along the lines of Lab Rats or Brush With Death to kill people with.
@Ted: Thanks. Summoner's Egg is a fun card overall, and Avarice Totem is actually really powerful once you get to 10 mana (and still pretty fun even if you're only at 5). If you're using Blood Tribute, Sanguine Bond helps to OHKO too, especially if you use other Drain Life spells.

The_Grey_King: Onyx Talisman sounds rather sexy, I'll have to luck further into it
uberdylan: I am still tossing up Sanguine Bond, like you said depends on how much life gain ends up in the deck. I'm not even sure if I will ever be able to kick Blood Tribute, just using it for the loose half your life part. I know there is going to be at least one vampire in there, Nirkana Revenant but I may add others later. Like I said, its just good stuff at the moment.
It really depends on your build if you think Sanguine Bond would make a good addition to the deck though. If you're thinking of using it as a core card especially, you'd also want several ways to tutor it (perhaps with Diabolic Tutor or Liliana Vess, among others).
To Codergeek: I'll keep that in mind, cheers. Tutors I have a plenty, wouldn't be black with out them :). Also, thanks for reminding me about Bloodchief Ascension, I have always wanted to abuse that card:p
To tobler: lich looks kinda fun, it's a shame the enchantments are so fragile. I am considering adding a doomsday combo or four;), but I'm not so sure at the moment. The Skeleton is on my list to added, as a general creature to abuse
Blast it's hard to type on this phone, but thanks for all the ideas guys 3)

Hehe, no problem. I run Bloodchief Ascensions in my casual Vampire deck instead of Kalastria Highborns, as I find that the Ascensions race aggro/life more readily, and is much more difficult to get rid of (since it's an enchantment and not a creature). I've surprised a many peoples with a T1 Ascension. It's especially fun in multiplayer, since if no one's paying a lot of attention, they'll hit each other and it'll be active within just a couple of turns or so. But I digress - don't want to go off-topic here.
Also, don't think it's been mentioned, but you could also use Sadistic Sacrament against other combo decks and watch them cry in pain - especially if you had enough to pay the kicker cost.
There's all sorts of sacrifice shenanigans you can pull with a Grave Pact in play. Fleshbag Marauder works well especially with some recursion effects. Also with a Grave Pact on the field you can do some nice board clearing with Phyrexian Plaguelord and some token creating effects like Nuisance Engine.

Mono-Black Oona, Queen of the Fae
Athreos, God of Passage

Currently 62/265 cards.

Lich or Lich's Tomb with Repay in Kind.
Haakon, Stromgald Scourge, Skeletal Changeling, Basal Sliver, and Bitter Ordeal.
For shenanigans, I recommend:
Corpse Dance and Fleshbag Marauder.
An X>5 Death Cloud and a suspended Nihilith or Body Snatcher on the battlefield.
Reassembling Skeleton is another great card to feed to Contamination.
Doomsday in general.

Endless Whispers + Phage the Untouchable short of exile you're pretty much in a win position.
Endless Whispers + Plague Wind or Hex is also good.
