This last Friday at FNM draft I opened a foil Gideon Jura (yay me), and I just happened to come across a foil Legions Akroma and I put two and two together and started a new EDH deck. I like to make my decks have a central theme to them though, not just a random pile of 100 good cards (although some good, non theme cards will be included). I have zombies, goblins, pingers, etc. and want this deck to be the same.
I chose the theme to go with angels right now, but I'm not quite sure the specifics on what it should be. What do all you who read this thread think?
Thanks in advance for your replies
I've decided to go for mono-white for now, but I'll probably be making some more angel themed decks at this point, as they all seem like very interesting decks to make. Here is a link to the current proposed deck. Anyone who wants to help, it'd be much appreciated
Congrats on the foil Gideon Jura! Sure an Akroma themed deck is possible... I'm actually in the process of making one myself (mono-white EDH). Akroma is an awesome card btw. You can add other angels to the deck too to make it special but I must warn you the cards to get pretty expensive!
Just a small suggestion: -
If you use something like Razia, Boros Archangel as your general, you can have all three Akromas in your deck!
Is there a secret third Akroma I don't know about :eyebrow:. Razia could work though. With only 2 WR angels and 1 R angel I'm not sure red would be a good color for the Angel theme. Any other suggestions for a theme then?

Thanks! I know they get expensive, but it's a gradual process and budget doesn't concern me very much, I'll get them eventually.

I was thinking about Akroma's Memorial when I typed that but when I came to eventually looked it up, I realised that there's a whooping 6 Akromas

I think he's talking about Akroma's Memorial...
Just a mono white Akroma deck as an Angel theme would work. I did a quick search on Gatherer and there are many powerful angels to work with -- I should point out that Karmic Guide is an angel as well.
My Angel Tribal EDH deck is extremely effective, and a great way to show off rare, foil, and older cards. It's linked in my sig, and includes the two Akromas : )
As for making Akroma a general herself, I'd have to recommend against it. Generals that expensive get to be outrageous to recast, particularly when the "General Zone" prevents Quicksilver Amulets, Belbe's Portal's, etc.
I rarely cast Razia, honestly, for just that reason.
I'd say the benefits of going mono-white outweigh the benefits of red/white:
Mono:
Akroma > Razia (same cost, but one is MUCH more game-ending)
You get full usage of mana doublers such as gauntlet of power
You get full usage of emeria, the sky ruin
More nonbasic land slots for utility lands (a friend of mine even ran urborg, tomb of yawgmoth just to turn on his angry mob
R/W:
You get some good red utility cards like wild ricochet firemane angel is actually quite good.
More mana stones available if ramp is your thing.
But that's all I can really think of. Maybe somebody else can point out something amazing about R/W that I haven't noticed?

It seems the main reason you're running red is for land destruction, and I'd prefer to stay away from that side. Land destruction will probably make it's way into the deck either way, but only one or two spells that will never show up unless I'm about to win.

One of my biggest reasons for starting with Mono white is that I have an actual foil Legion Akroma, and those are pretty rare (rare cards make good generals after all). I do agree with your reasoning with white though. When you get a lot of mana acceleration due to only one color the fact that Akroma can get expensive kind of fades out a little. Also Red give you access to a lot of LD as MidoriRyu is running in his deck.
Hey, try Angel stax, Artifacts with White cards i wanted to build one similar but didnt quite get it working. Damping Engine ,Ward of Bones, try to clear the board with cataclysm or other white removal. finished off with lumincarch assension.
Hmm... Now you guys have me thinking about making an Oros, the Avenger three colored angel deck... I don't know how well that would work though.
I'd actually go that route, as he's a lot better general than most of the angels you could have as generals (except maybe Linvala). Even though his ability's pretty useless w/o Deathtouch/Lifelink support (even though it knocks out smaller generals/utility creatures), he's a 6/6 flyer for 6, which means he can be played early and often without worry.
Just because I wanted to do it and havent yet...You should make a 5 color angel tribal deck. Kinda 5 color goodstuff..But you get all the best angels. Think maelstrom archangel, angel of despair, desolation angel, lightning angel. Maybe Karona as general?
I think It's worth it just for the maelstrom...
If I were you and had a foily Akroma from legions i would definately stick with her as my general. She is the iconic white angel and has amazing stats. Mono white also provides consistency and answers to anything. Mono whites main downfall is in its lack of card advantage and for that i would suggest strong equipment like SoFi and SoLS, Jitte and skullclamp as well. There is a lot of non equipment artifacts that can be used as well like minds eye and if you have a decent amount of life gain you can use well of lost dreams. White has the the great ability to fetch these card advantage producing artifacts. No others colors are necessary.
However, not all creatures should be angels i believe. There should be a few utility creatures like duplicant and stoneforge mystic for example. I think there is great potential for a deck like this and it is only made better because it has an awesome theme.
That's what the deck is currently set up to be, I just don't have all the best choices yet. I might have to make multiple decks by the time this is done .
For now, buy popular vote and by the fact that I started the deck because of Gideon, a white card, I think I'll stick with mono-W. However, Oros Angels has caught my attention, and will have to be my next deck. I'll get a decklist up and post a link here in anyone wants to help me fine tune it.

I actually was going to post to recommend using Oros, the Avenger. That way you get stuff like Razia, Boros Archangel, and also Desolation Angel. Imagine this: EoT Rout, then untap, Desolation Angel w/ Kicker? GG. hell, you can use Desolation Angel's brother from a different mother Desolation Giant as well. There's a plethora of great options for WBR.

I recently picked up a foil Karona, the False God for this exact purpose. I haven't gotten around to building it yet though. My first real EDH deck was BW Angels with Selenia, Dark Angel as the general but now that I've got Razia, Boros Archangel, Firemane Angel, and Akroma, Angel of Fury I've switched over to an Oros, the Avenger deck. I am still working on the pieces though.
