I decided I wanted to post my EDH decks as I am a huge fan of this format and wouldn't mind feedback on card choices and such. This is my third deck and it's designed for 1-on-1. I know EDH is more of a multiplayer format but I already had two decks geared for multiplayer and found myself playing 1-on-1 games fairly often. I had a Phelddagrif deck that used Protean Hulk to combo off, but the Hulk got banned about the same time Rafiq came out so I decided I could canibalize that deck for a good 1-on-1 deck. Plan A is to get a good equipment or Might of Oaks or Finest Hour and do 21 general damage with Rafiq. Rafiq has a tendancy to die however, so Plan B is to play utility creatures, guys that are good on their own and better with Rafiq out. That's why I chose creatures with good abilities over big cheap big dumb dudes. Here's the deck:
I see you've chosen to be more about the beats and less about control.
When my Rafiq deck was together instead of in shambles after my plucking of white and green cards for a Uril deck. I pretty much played for plan A all the time but with counterspells to try and insure my 1v1 match was always going in my favor.
I would probably enjoy both play styles, but for competetiveness I think I prefer the control version of a 1v1 Rafiq deck. I'm mostly a Spike with some johnny and timmy in me.:sneaky:
I'm too lazy to give specific suggestions, so you should just check out my deck for some ideas for improvements. It works in both multiplayer and duels, so you should be able to find some good cards for your deck in there.
Yeah I definitely wanted to go very aggro. It's not normally my style so I thought it would be fun with such an aggressive general in a color combination I love. Even without some of the typical control elements the deck tends to do very well in 1v1 since it had just enough late game to have a chance if the rush tactic fails.
One thing I didn't mention is that I'm kind of in love with Gaddock Teeg. I have even thought about dismantling this deck to make one with him as a general, but what I've done is limit the cards in the deck that don't work with him out to only the two that allow me to win on the spot with Rafiq.
