What do the Stompy players think about Hooting Mandrills? It seems like a sure bet for turn 3-4 as a 1 mana drop to me; the amount of none-recursive pumps will make him cheap quickly, and 4/4 with trample is pretty big for pauper (out of bolt range for sure.) He seems like a good way to extend the power of Stompy if it does not win right off of the bat.

It is certainly an interesting card. I do like it and it may be viable, my only reservation with it is after turn 3 or even 4 you would have to cast him for the entire mana cost and if you have a second one in your hand he is basically useless for another few turns.
Granted that may not be the worst thing but I know in my own stompy everything has a purpose at every single moment so I have zero dead cards at any given time. Like I said, my opinion is split; he could be good or he could be dead cards for a few turns. Can you afford to remove something worthwhile at any given time for a late game beater? I don't know.
Playing a few goldfishes I am not sure how well he would work. He is a decent topdeck once, but you don't want him in the opening hand and you really do not want 2. Running 2 of might work in a pump-devoted deck.
I see Mandrills as a good card to have as a 1-of in Stompy. You'll draw it from time to time, and it will be a blow out. Any further apes will most likely be unplayable.
He's insane with Grisly Salvage. Imagine Turn 1 Duress. Turn 2 Grisly Salvage, and turn 3, you can delve and play Hooting Mandrills for G and keep 2 mana open for Doom Blade or something.
Hopefully he won't blindly play his turns out like that once he sees what he's dealing with.
The Mandrills work great when splashed with a control color like Black or Blue since they naturally get cards in the GY. I'm currently using them in a U/G Delve deck I brewed up and they are an absolute HOUSE! They work well with Thought Scour!

I dont want a counter burn or removal spell to be pitched. No matter how good a 4/4 trample for 1 green sounds.
The Mandrills also go well in any deck that naturally casts a lot of cards, not just a self mill plan.
