Mono-blue in Pauper seems very slow, and it does not have anywhere to go. It does however have a pretty good pump and an unblockable infect critter, so I was trying my hand at making a mono-blue infect deck that uses pumps and unblockable conditions to quickly end the game and uses counters to protect its strikers.
The biggest issue is the lack of really good infect creatures to back it up, but 1 blighted agent with unstable mutation will end the game if it is not hit with removal (which we will be countering.)
Possibly taking out Unstable Mutation for Mutagenic Growth, but I really like the idea of just setting a 4 round timer on the match.
This deck lacks the raw speed that other infect decks have to win. I'd forget about using Corpse Cur if I were you.
You need some filtering. Ponder, Preordain. They'll get you what you need to win.
Daze? A good counter you're also missing is Prohibit.
I wouldn't take out Unstable Mutation, but I would definitely add Mutagenic growth.
Distortion strike is not so useful, as half of your usable creatures are already unblockable. You could use other blue pump spells. Cunning comes to mind. Bonesplitter as well. I guess Essence Flare and Piracy Charm don't really work here. Spectral Flight could be ok.
I think it looks better! I wish there were more good creatures you could use. having only 8 infect creatures is kinda dangerous. Not saying you should put Corpse Cur back in, but there has to be something. At least you should be able to protect them.
What do you think of Disrupt? Is it playable? Have you tried it out before? That cantrip is very tempting, but I feel it would get kinda useless quickly.
20 lands seems on the low side for a control deck.
Yeah, it is extremely rough having only 8 critters. It just happens to be the only 8 creatures that work, and the way the deck is set up adding more would just take away from its control (at which point you should just switch to green infect.)
Disrupt felt really right when I was putting the deck together, but I think with this deck Intervene is going to be better (as I was using Disrupt to block kill spells anyway) and siding in Hydroblast for burn decks.
Good point on the lands, I just don't have much room to cut in this deck.
