I was clicking the random card feature on Gatherer and came across Contaminated Ground and thought it would make for an interesting deck. Change their colours so they have a hard time casting things, and then beat them up with unblockable creatures.
I'm thinking that having some defensive creatures with some attack points could allow me to fend off early attacks while I change up their lands.
I'm on the fence with Dirtwater Wraith as opposed to Whispering Shade. One has a higher base toughness that doesn't tie up my mana to survive/block, but it also can't be altered. The other is extremely mana intensive and can use up a lot of my resources just to block properly.
Land changing would be quite beneficial because it would screw up mana bases of decks running more than one colour. It would also punish decks that use very few lands. It also screws with Cloudpost.
Any comments or suggestions? I was also partly inspired by the Blue version of this deck posted a few pages back. Blue might be the way to go, but Black has access to better removal and creatures, but sub-par draw.
If you're going to keep Evincar's Wrath, that suggests favoring Dirtwater Wraith over Whispering Shade. It also makes Dross Golem kinda weak.
I think sewer shambler and street wraith are a bit weak. I don't know what you would replace them with, but you need to be able to deal with aggro decks, and I'm not sure these guys can stand up to them.
Awesome Deck Man! Just made a deck very similar to this myself.
Thank you! To be perfectly honest, I completely gave up on the idea after a few days, as the logistics were a bit complicated to make this even remotely competitive. Although the idea is shelved, I'd be more than happy if we could share lists and discuss playables! I'd be very interested in seeing what you've put together.
How about Blistergrub instead of one of ur 3 drops
Seeing as my only 3-drop swampwalker is Sewer Shambler, I much prefer the latter, as pumping a creature (who is most likely unblockable) for two power is much more rewarding in the long run.
This deck needs so many things. It's slow, has creatures that are mediocre at best, and could use ways to create card advantage. hmmm...
If you go back to this I suggest Tormented Soul. Unblockable is basically the same as swamp walk right? It also gives you a place to put those scavenge counters.
hi, trying to get into pauper since it seems fun, cheap, and massive amounts of playable card/decks (being all commons you know). But why not keep the idea of messing with the lands like you seem to have in mind giving them swamps, but then just ignoring the idea of swampwalk? use just aggressive and fair costing, maybe aggro style, and make like a black land denial/aggro/midrange plan if that makes sense.
maybe use Gray Merchant of Asphodel as a 1 or 2 of to finish off at the end since your devotion will be decent with all the auras and creatures and he can help a late game that happens to drag out or stalemate/
You know, that's not a bad idea. The swampwalkers are just so bad, so why not just land-screw them and just run better creatures? It would be a bit more if a dedicated mana denial strategy at that point, and those have not been so good historically in Pauper. Maybe it's worth taking another look, though! Chittering Rats would be right at home here. It also means Sinkhole is a 4-of.
This deck uses a mix of Land denial and unblock-able creatures to destroy its foes. I have used this Deck to win quite a few casual matches and it's really decent at trolling with people. Any comments/criticism are welcome.
I like the numbers of each category, they seem very appropriate. There's just Shadow Slice that I really don't like at all. I think it would serve much better as another creature.
Also, while this doesn't quite fit as a Pauper deck because of Bile Blight and Rogue's Gloves, you could add three more uncommons and make it a Peasant deck, or you could easily replace the two uncommons with similar commons, like Echoing Decay and Sign in Blood.
Here's a very rough, untested draft:
3 Dirtwater Wraith
4 Dross Golem
4 Sewer Shambler
2 Street Wraith
4 Victim of Night
4 Tendrils of Corruption
2 Evincar's Justice
Land Denial (14)
4 Evil Presence
4 Contaminated Ground
3 Tainted Well
3 Rancid Earth
23 Swamp
Obviously, Rancid Earth could be Sinkhole, but yeah...

4th place at CCC&G Pro Tour
Chances of bad hands (<2 or >4 land):

22: 27.5%
23: 26.3%
24: 25.5%
25: 25.1%
26: 25.3%
I'll have to take a look at what creatures there are with toughness >2 in black and see if it's worth a try.

Tormented Soul is fun as well.
