Anyway my playgroup plays a lot of multiplayer and casual games. So i have been wanting to get into pauper for a while. Though i don't want to spend too much on it.
The only one i have seen so far is a creature-less turbofog deck with mazes end or door to nothingness as win con's. Turbofog should be doing well in this standard too with all the enchantment hate in the sideboard, but the meta is not really aggro so i don't see how far it will go. So i really don't have any ideas for a budget pauper deck right now.
I actually don't think its possible to go with set specific mechanics, for lack of commons. Maybe pauper mono-green or green-something infect? Pauper white weenies?
Multiplayer is very different from 1vs1 games. That's because on multiplayer you have to deal 20x(number of players) damage in order to win. A lot of decks are designed to deal 20 dmg very consistently, but often will run out of gas after that.
So decks like burn, infect, mono green stompy, storm are no go. They will kill the first player then you'll be set with no cards on hand and a bunch of 1/1's on the field.
Decks like white weenies and goblins could do good, since they rely more on creatures. Turbofog is not good because you have multiple combats before your turn again, so if they decide to atack you, you'll not have enough fogs to counter it.
Control decks are tricky. Heavy counter decks are bad because they can't counter everything. Same can be said about discard. However cards like Pestilence, electrickery can be devastating.
So I'd recomend decks that don't care about the number of players, like 8 post, tron or pestilence.
What's cool about it is that you can slowly transition into a non-pauper version by acquiring cards as you go, making it stronger and stronger according to your budget. I also have a non-pauper Pestilence Primer you can check out in my Sig (all the way at the bottom)!
Not sure if i can make a budget version of either Tron or Cloudpost.
Pestilence however does seem to have potential and is pretty cheap. i like how u can go mono-black control with walls, while slowly draining their life until u unleash a corrupt.
Seems perfect for my playgroup that does casual multi-player of 3-5 player matches, i can be one of those guys sitting back building up my mana base, helping others take out those with the best boards, then still have enough cards since i will be not over zealous in playing control till i am focused at the end.
I wonder if anyone has successfully piloted a a UB version. They usually have the best walls and great control options.
Pestilence works wonders in multiplayer and forces you to use/develop your diplomatic skills. I really recommend it.
Gray Merchant is amazing in multiplayer as it will suck life from every opponent, which is both fair for all opponents and puts you far ahead on life.
I've only ever heard of one person playing UB Pestilence, and he was focusing on just protecting his spells with a few cheap counters and milling stuff. It wasn't great. Red is actually the colour with the strongest walls at a cost/toughness ratio. Wall of Stone, Wall of Heat, Wall of Earth, to name a few. I don't think Tempo and Pestilence belong together at all, unless you're just using Pestilence as a board clearing removal spell, à laWrath of God.
Pestilence with Tortured Existence -> Grave Scrabbler -> Gray Merchant of Asphodel has been pretty fun for me. Also, I haven't found pauper Tron to be expensive.
Paper Pauper doesn't have a banned list. Also, Kabirum said it was for a playgroup. He can use whatever cards he wishes (as long as his playgroup agrees).
Please understand the rules of a certain format before making blatant posts. This format falls under paper, paper Pauper is an unofficial format thus it has no such restrictions officially. The only official form of Pauper is online. However if a playgroup wishes to enforce a ban list they can.

Set a man on fire, he is warm for the rest of his life.

Now with the release of the theros block, u can use the mono black devotion commons, Grey Merchant of Asphodel, Disciple of Phenax and Marshmist Titan, along with some BB mana cost enablers to even further punish ur opponents.

W White Weenie
I don't quite how the combo with Grave Scrabbler and Tortured existence works with Pestilence and Gray Merchant.
