Your friends are undoubtedly way more hardcore and/or patient than mine. The problem for me is if the deck is never going to actually finish the game before turn 20 I'll never really get to play it. I mean, either I'll be murdered quickly by the pack of wolves & have to sit around twiddling my thumbs or everyone will just scoop once the engine gets going, which is only slightly more satisfying than having something but never actually getting to use it.
This is my go-to EDH deck that I play on EDH night at our LGS. It doesn't end games too quickly and it never runs out of steam. We're talking dozens of unique individuals whom I have very little personal connection with; not a handful of trihard friends.
I want to build a 60 card deck with some of the stuff we've talked about that's somewhat in between, but I haven't figured it out yet. I want early control stuff like Innocent Blood, Smallpox, & Massacre, but then once I've killed a creature or two I want to start doing something offensive, I'm just not sure what that is yet (other than given that removal suite it'd make sense to play Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet). This deck would pretty much specifically be used for playing as the wing in emperor or in a 3 player multiplayer game against a total 1 on 1 designed Bogles deck that hits me for 10+ on turn 3 & turn 4 since my sweepers are too slow & I can't necessarily target or destroy his 1 creature even if I do happen to have a Beast Within or Cyclonic Rift.

Maybe you should start a new thread?!
My meta: 3 or 4 player free for all, anything goes but boring games or broken decks cause a vote to end that game.
