Hello & thanks for taking time to read. A new player gave me $200 and asked for me to buy cards to start a multiplayer collection. I'd love to hear some advice on the subject. What cards always seem to find a way into your decks?
The black staple fave of mine is Recurring Nightmare. Unlike others older staples, this one has stayed reasonable enough to order online and a singleton is all you need for a deck.
I'd look at Prid3's multiplayer color guides and pick out 2-3 decks to build for him that he likes that fit his budget. They tend to be full of staples that you can switch between any number of decks of the proper colors, and that way for $200 he'll actually have a few good options to bring to a multiplayer table.
EDIT: That being said, a few staples not on your list already that I would definitely be sure not to omit:
Lurking Predators: Because 24 land, 4 Lurking Predators, 32 of any creature is a somewhat viable shell with nearly infinite room for customization and improvement
Luminate Primordial: just get a full set of all 5 primordials. They cost like 25 cents and will slot into pretty much any deck that fits the colors.

Syphon Mind, Massacre, Phyrexian Arena, Fleshbag Marauder: Generic, affordable playables that will fit into pretty much any black deck
Sun Titan: Combined with Emeria, the Sky Ruin this lets White play the long game better than most other options. Synergy with lots of things in White like blink effects, Serenity, Grasp of Fate, etc.
Panharmonicon: Completely busted effect with any number of cards that have enter-the-battlefield effects.
Personally I love dual manlands, Ravnica bounce lands and the Tarkir triple lands but there a lot of other options.
Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Rogue's Passage, Thespian's Stage and Dust Bowl are useful.
Academy Ruins and Volrath's Stronghold too.
Cards I'd rather not live without:
All pretty generic. Add flavor of choice. I don't know your friend well enough...
Oh by the way, I like your list as well though I wouldn't buy Counterspell. The two blue and the one-for-one nature puts me off.
(The Viral Drake is probably a meta thing. It's a non-broken planeswalker-enabler. You might wanna skip it.)
My meta: 3 or 4 player free for all, anything goes but boring games or broken decks cause a vote to end that game.
I wasn't able to make it work in my playgroup. What do you play it with?
To answer OP: Cards I love in multiplayer that weren't mentioned are

Thanks - I've certainly been digging through Prid3's guides - great stuff!
