My youngest sons' fave deck is Mono-Blue Illusions. He's 10, but he's pretty good with simple MTG stuff.
It's been thru loads of different versions, right now is the version my son likes. He likes aetherplasm A LOT.
That's 60 cards.
Fatties are usually a mix of Stormtide Leviathan, Inkwell Leviathan, Tidespout Tyrant, Scourge of Fleets etc. but whatever non-legendary (think Image) we have on hand goes in.
Counter is Foil, but could be anything really - these have been more fatties & Aetherplasm #4 previously, which is why High Tide is in the deck.
So what else could we try?
Any new cards I might have missed that may work here?
Any *illusion* specific stuff that doesn't just suck?
Foil is a tough card for a 10 year old to properly use. Stick to something like Counterspell or omit permission entirely IMO. From what I've seen young kids struggle to know when/where to use permission to make it actively good which is kinda why I'd rather see more "critical mass synergy" cards and fewer "expert-level decision making" ones.
Yeah I get what your laying down - counter can be difficult, but he actually wants it in there.
He will typically use it to troll a player, usually a sibling, which is a great source of fun for him.
FWIW, he's not too bad at using counter appropriately, should he wish to, instead of just taking someone down out of spite.
He's a sharp little man when he wants to be.
Palinchron isn't a card Í was considering, but I can imagine using it....
Chameleon Spirit is a card we've used before with mixed results. In the larger games it can get LARGE.
Illusory Ambusher I've not seen before. Mindseeker looks interesting.
We've usually used some Riftwing Cloudskate, Phantasmal Dragon or Draining Whelk in these sort of slots.
Previous versions of the deck ran lots of copy/clone or even thief effects. My boy liked these too.
Draw you entire deck, and then force everyone else to draw theirs. No you can't play it in our meta, infinite rules and all.....nice try
That's fine, but the OP did ask for Illusion-specific synergies that don't suck and you'd be hard-pressed to argue that any of what I was describing "sucks."

Nope, pretty sure H20 is directing this comment at me and our meta.
I like what you suggested, if it weren't infinite I would be all over it.

4 High Tide
4 Lord of the Unreal
4 Phantasmal Image
4 Krovikan Mist
2 Aura Thief
2 Draining Whelk
5 Fatties
4 Counter
4 Trade Secrets
2 Rhystic Study

Palinchron is ridiculously broken with High Tide and is an Illusion itself.
Chameleon Spirit, Illusory Ambusher and Jace's Mindseeker are all decent. Basically any Clone can also work quite well so you could always give him more things like Stunt Double.

Palinchron + High Tide = infinite mana.
Palinchron + Phantasmal Image = infinite mana.
Change Trade Secrets over to Blue Sun's Zenith and now you have the ability to draw your entire library and deck everyone else with Blue Sun's Zenith in one fell swoop. That would make the deck fairly competitive .

My first deck ever was illusions, in standard and casual. I am always looking for ways to port it over to MP, so I am also eager to see fun decklists
It's really good with infinite mana because it wins the game on the spot against any number of adversaries.

Ah I see it now.
Yeah unfortunately Illusions aren't very good at playing fair and so when unfair is off of the table you're left with a rather anemic tribe :<.
