I'm not talking about your combo decks which win nearly every time, or decks where you just cram in the strongest cards for their CMC.
I want to know what decks you like to play to have fun + that are reasonably strong but not oppressive.
My new favourite deck is my silly werewolf deck where I just try and bust out as many as possible and attack everyone.
My other favourites are Lighthouse Chronologist and B/U Mill which both pretty much function as time bomb decks where if I can outlast 2-3 friends I win. Rarely happens but I love it.
How about you?
For me it's Pox decks. The very first "tryhard" deck that I ever built back in 2000 was a 4x Phyrexian Arena and 4x Mindslicer brew and it wasn't long before Dark Ritual and Pox joined them as brothers in arms. Nowadays we even have Smallpox to add insult to injury and the advent of Waste Not took the deck from "annoying" to "oppressive" overnight. I know that you didn't necessarily want to hear about overly powerful decks but for someone like me Nether Spirit + Contamination or Ophiomancer + Smokestack is the most fun that I could possibly have. I played the deck back when it never won because I legitimately love to play Stax/Prison/Mana Denial decks.
I spent a good chunk of time trying to make a deck around jackalope herd because i loved the picture and the mechanic seemed unplayable. The whole process was fun, but the outcome not too competitive....
For me, it's probably the ever-evolving Worry Beads deck that I've probably had together in some form for close to a decade. Its performance is highly dependent on what gets dumped into opponents' graveyards, so it plays differently depending on what gets suited up across the table.
*Southern drawl* It's liiike a box o' chocklits... you donno what you gonna git.
My first foray into tournament Magic was UWr Control in the RTR/THS season. Because of that, I'll never get sick of piloting me some Jeskai Control. I have tried several iterations at the kitchen table as well, currently playing the trusty Soulfire Grand Master/Boros Reckoner/Swans of Bryn Argoll deck with burn like Blasphemous Act, Chain Reaction, & Rolling Earthquake, along with some counter magic, cantrips, a couple other wrath effects, etc... it's loads of fun.
This! My favorite is Maelstrom Wanderer, especially in a Planechase variant where we all play with one deck of plan cards for the table. I like your idea and if I could afford some of those cards, I might be playing that also.
I'm beginning to like the Temur Ascendancy deck I put together for the same reason. The Myriadcreatures help me go big or go home feeling satisfied at the level of destruction I wrought.
I quite like my mono-blue copy or steal deck. Almost every card in there copies/steals something else.
Heavily dependant on whatever other decks are being played, but it can be hilarious
I love my dredgey/BG/graveyard decks too. 80%+ of my cards are BUG colours ha ha.

Rakdos token death: Give people tokens via Forbidden Orchard, Varchild's War-Riders, Hunted Horror, Hunted Dragon, Mogg Infestation and then kill everyone off via Blood Seeker, Blood Artist, Illness in the Ranks, Virulent Plague, Massacre Wurm.
Abzan recurring reanimator: Fun junk deck with stuff like Sun Titan,Recurring Nightmare, Animate Dead, Pernicious Deed, Lord of Extinction,Griselbrand, Flickerwisp, Eternal Witness,Temur Sabertooth, Ashen Rider, Sylvan Primordial, etc.
Boros-haups: Typical Jokulhaups deck with Assemble the Legion,Obliterate, Greater Gargadon, Ajani Vengeant, Gideon, Champion of Justice and a bunch of walls and ramp for early game defense.
Been meaning to work on a fun Grixis deck trying to abuse Ankh of Mishra, Zo-Zu the Punisher and Bloodchief Ascension. Add in cards like Sunder, Manabarbs and maybe a bunch of artifact ramp with a few Mishra, Artificer Prodigys to double up on the Ankhs or artifact mana.
And rip them apart each new release.
Some overall themes recurr:
Mono-black: big mana, some kill and threats (Pestilence Demon like) and most important: reanimating opposing hitters.
5-color cool stuff: legends and planeswalkers and slivers in one deck supported by evergreens of any color. (and Havengul Lich, just because...)
Any combo of two or three colors: activated abilities plus Rings of Brighthearth.
Making an impression (WTF just happend??!!) and then win or go down in heavenly glory.
My meta: 3 or 4 player free for all, anything goes but boring games or broken decks cause a vote to end that game.

Green - Blue - Red - White - Gold
My Red deck with cards like Gauntlet of Might, Akroma, Angel of Fury, Insurrection & Gratuitous Violence. With outlets like Dragon Whisperer and Kumano, Master Yamabushi for all that mana, and big finishers like Inferno Titan and Comet Storm, the deck is a fairly casual affair. Some beaters mixed with some offensive spells gives you many options to how you want to win.
My Green deck with cards like Sylvan Primordial, Primeval Titan, Xenagos, God of Revels & Kessig Wolf Run. A typical Smash 'Em deck that's a lot of fun to play - you just want to beat face and go home.

Also known as "the best 8 drop in the game." You haven't lived until you're gone turn ~5 Gilded Lotus, tap for Congregation at Dawn, turn 6 Wanderer Cascading into the likes of Scourge of the Throne and Molten Primordial or even some Sylvan Primordials with Wildfires in hand.
