Necrologia seems like an awesome card. I really like Necropotence but dunno if its too powerful for casual play? My playgroup is super casual, I feel like Necropotence would be a potential game-winner everytime it is drawn... with that said.. there are 100 cards in the deck so the chance of drawing it is relatively low (outside of using tutor cards). Do you guys think Necropotence is too powerful for casual play?

If by that you mean it only ruins games in which it's actually drawn, then the best way to keep that from happening is to take it out of the deck.
Necropotence can be "not broken". Depends on the deck it's in. It's legal as a 4-of in Block Constructed, for example, where it is surrounded by terrible cards.
It's almost as if he asked using the context of monoblack lifegain EDH.
Thanks so much Prid3 for your insightful comment! I do understand the card is very powerful, and that it can be "abused" i.e. always searching for it using tutors, but was questioning whether it can be played in a style where it does not inherently break the game, and in that context if Necropotence is worth having in a casual deck or if it receives excessive hate and is not fun to play with/against. It appears that the latter is the case, and I won't plan on including it in future decks.

Just because something is not banned or restricted doesn't mean anything. Black Summer, anyone?

I'll never understand the edh ban list. Upheaval is banned and sunder isn't. Huh? Necropotence is legal, but trade secrets was too powerful? Still no idea why timetwister, sol ring and mana crypt are legal. The drawback on mana vault at least pretends to be fair.
As for the question about potence. If you have zero life gain and care about your graveyard, its balanced. If either of the above are not true, expect to see some hate.

I have a playgroup that plays "casual EDH" in that we banned killing people before turn 5, infinite combos and all 1 card win conditions such as Survival of the Fittest, Doomsday, Omniscience, Yawgmoth's Will, Laboratory Maniac, Ad Nauseam, Tooth and Nail, Mizzix's Mastery, Enter the Infinite, on and on and on. One my friends who played a DoomsdayZur the Enchanter converted his deck into a "fair" value deck. First thing he tutors for is Necropotence so that he can draw 20 cards, next thing he fetches is Oblivion Ring so that he can remove it to keep playing Magic. He has no lifegain and no recursion since Yawgmoth's Will is banned. The card still isn't remotely close to being close to being fair. 3 mana (or 0 mana in his case) to draw 10-20 cards is horrifically imbalanced and there's no two ways about it.
Life's Finale is a lot worse than Crux of Fate if you can afford to play that instead. I would personally cut Barter in Blood but if your meta is devoid of token-based strategies then it's certainly reasonable at which point I would cut Black Sun's Zenith. I think that BSZ is one of the most overrated mass removal spells in the entire game and I don't understand why people consider it to be a top tier sweeper. I haven't played the thing in years and couldn't imagine ever doing so at any point in the future.
Is there a functional difference between that and tutoring for Demonic Tutor to fetch Toxic Deluge? I can't imagine that Skullbriar is an oppressive force in anyone's meta.
Probably not, more of a thematic choice I guess in that I like to have card draw, removal, discard, etc. available at every CMC that I have transmuters.
Random rules question......In a multiplayer game (say against two other opponents) if I had Sanguine Bond and Alhammarret's Archive on the battlefield and played Exsanguinate and paid X=10, then each player would lose X=10 life and I would gain X=10 life from each opponent. In total I would gain 20 life, which would be doubled (40) due to Alhammarret's Archive. This 40 life-gain is then translated into 40 damage to one player via Sanguine Bond. In the end one player would lose 50 life, one player would lose 10 life, and I would gain 40 life. Is this the correct?

Hey Everyone, after play-testing the deck I found that the deck was a little slow and perhaps needed more card draw. In light of this I have been contemplating revising the deck, making Erebos, God of the Dead my commander--but still heavily sticking to the vampires theme and wanted to get everyones thoughts on the new direction for the deck.
Cabal Coffers and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth are too essential to omit. That isn't to say that there aren't other lands that I would also run but you really need Coffers at the very least. It's not even an option. It's literally the only reason (outside of Sidisi, Undead Vizier as a general) to play monoblack.
Greed is worthless given that it's a bad version of your Commander.
Blade of the Bloodchief will forever and always be a crappy card that I would never play (even in a dedicated Vampire deck).
Dark Prophecy seems heinous. I play it in 60 card decks that have more creatures than this (no hyperbole).
The card is heinously overpowered.

One of the goal of the deck is to focus on life-gain to (1) draw cards (i.e. Alhammarret's Archive, Well of Lost Dreams), (2) offset life-loss to draw cards (i.e. Erebos, God of the Dead, Necrologia, Dark Prophecy, Greed, Phyrexian Arena), (3) Damage opponents (i.e. Defiant Bloodlord, Sanguine Bond), and (4) offset life-loss for other positive effects (i.e. Phyrexian Reclamation). Spells that allow or enable life-gain include: Exsanguinate, Blood Tribute, Bloodchief Ascension, Whip of Erebos, Sword of War and Peace, Venser's Journal, Alhammarret's Archive, Blood Artist, Falkenrath Noble, Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Kalastria Highborn, Malakir Bloodwitch, Sangromancer, and Vampire Nighthawk.
The second goal of the deck is to have positive synergy with Grave Pact, Dictate of Erebos, Butcher of Malakir, and/or Anowon, the Ruin Sage to both remove creatures from the board while providing life-gain/damage (i.e. Blood Artist, Kalastria Highborn, Falkenrath Noble, Sangromancer, Bloodchief Ascension) and potentially some mana ramp via Black Market. Finally, the last sub-theme of the deck is to try and slowly syphon off/control the opponents creatures via Captivating Vampire, Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet, Animate Dead, Necromancy, and Grave Betrayal. What do you guys think?
