I wanna make Impact Tremors into a deck, but I'm a little unsure how to get the best out of it.
Bear in mind my group uses sweepers, of both the creatures and enchantment/artefact variety, so the deck can't utterly rely on Impact Tremors
But...
Should I stay in mono-red?
Is the draw available from Mentor of the Meek, the token producing options like Secure the Wastes and answers in White worth the splash?
Either way, what would you do? What other cards could I chuck in?
There's no one right answer. Splashing White is basically free once you take Wind-Scarred Crag, Boros Garrison and Boros Guildgate into account. You're not playing a 1-drop deck anyways so you'll have plenty of time to jam some ETB lands onto the battlefield.
Genesis Chamber is actually pretty bad if you're mostly playing a token deck. I know that it combos with Norin and such, it's not horrendous, but it's also not fantastic or anything. I don't really like the card in "fair" decks in general but YMMV. If you had 4 Clamps, sure, auto 4-of. Otherwise? Meh, I'm not in love with it.
Tempt with Vengeance is actually insane since it's just a mono-Red version of Secure the Wastes. People can't actually take the offer (for obvious reasons) so White isn't exactly required. Still, hey, you can always run both! The Tempt cards have actually proved to be rather insane in my circles since people are greedy mofos and often say "yes." My opinion of the non-White ones has gone WAAAAAAAAY up. Like, right now people are probably thinking "yeah what if Tremors isn't in play and they accept?" GREAT! That's AWESOME for you. You're the one with Purph, Clamp, etc. in your deck. It's a good card that gives people an option to mess up and they routinely do.
I personally dislike Norin because I don't think that it's good card unless everything is going right. I would rather play a card like Cathars' Crusade that can save me even if things haven't gone perfectly for me.
If I were going to splash for White I would make every effort to go UWR for Jeskai Ascendancy even if it meant playing no other Blue cards. The card is so freaking fun and powerful. It's an absolute blast to play with in token shells. Vigilance, pump, card filtering... it does everything :). Just imagine that card with Krenko, Mob Boss Kreygasm.
I don't really like cards like Grafted Wargear or Hammer of Purphoros in token decks. I would just rather have token producers and cards that pump my entire team.
You could do something similar. That said I took this version apart. Despite running clifftop retreat and sacred foundry I had issues getting the color of mana I needed.
Then the printed hordeling outburst and I decided that white wasn't needed anymore, the mono red version ran more creatures so I also dropped Young Pyromancer and guttersnipe. The current deck is
This mono red version runs very well. Since impact tremors does half the damage of purphoros I don't know how well it will work with this stratagy though. In this case I feel double the mana is well worth double the damage. Having the unified creature type and shared animosity also proves to be very very powerful. The combo of burn and just huge attackers work well together. Anyway hope either of these give you ideas.
I was the guy playing the relentless rats deck back during mirrodin and kamigawa blocks. Yes, cranial extraction was used on me. No, I didn't win much. Yes, I do have a relentless rats edh deck. No, it doesn't win much either...

Cheers Prid3.
Genesis Chamber and Norin were never going to be a 4-of.
My main decision really, is whether to go full-on token strategy or whether to stay with Perm's.
If I stay with Perms, Fanatic of Mogis might even be an option, and well, Nykthos is awesome and could potentially open up Goblin Offensive-style options too.
Given Goblins supplies the deck some pseudo-card advantage c/o Goblin Matron, Moggcatcher and the like, it's something I have to consider.
If I do, you're probably right, Genesis Chamber probably won't really be needed. That said, Norin will probably still make the cut, but probz only 2 at most.
Tempt with Vengeance?!?! Holy *****! I had no idea this card existed. This would be great in my group (we are a greedy bunch).
Cathars' Crusade. LOL. You must have read my mind. That was one of the main cards I was considering, together with Mentor of the Meek and Assemble the Legion. Yeah, I think you're probably right RE: Grafted Wargear & Hammer. Saying that, if equipment still gets in, living weapon satisfies Tremors/Purphoros. Batterskull, Bonehoard etc. would probably be better idea.

CHeers Nertak.
Looks interesting. And you make a very valid point regarding Purphoros VS Impact Tremors.
My thought is because Purphoros is legenadary, it limits how useful/damaging it can be. Shared Animosity could be an option if I go full goblin and mono-red for sure.
To be honest, the only colour I'm locked on is Red.
Black would make a lot of sense given Bloodghast, Abyssal Gatekeeper and friends and the sac options together with Grave Pact-style cards. Sengir Autocrat looks interesting, but it's only good when there's Tremors/Purphoros on the table, so for me it's a marginal choice even though it's an efficient card. That said, sac effects with this sucker could be pretty useful.... EDIT: Thought about Black some more.
Goblins care about black for recursion, if it's even necessary here, as could Demigod of Revenge. Hmm...
I DID look at Goblin Bombardment. I like this card for duels, but here I'm not sure.
It feels a little win-more to me, although Bombardment is useful if a creature sweeper was played. Hmm...
I'm looking very hard at Fanatic of Mogis. I really like the effect as even if it only hits for 3 or 4, that's still pretty good given the aim of the deck.

Krenko, Mob Boss quickly ends games if not dealt with. I'd probably run 4 of those. Multiples is not a problem; you have a spare if they kill it, and otherwise you just win anyway.
I agree. I'm going to run Goblin Matron I think, as it's effectively card advantage. 3 Krenkz should do it.
with 8 to 12 flex slots.
Probably Goblin Warchief for hasty Krenko & Faithless Looting too.
As well as some interaction. Maybe Chaos Warp or others perhaps.
I still think that Norin sucks btw. I feel like this style of deck doesn't need to run marginal cards. I'm also not convinced that Moggcatcher is better than Beetleback Chief but that one's not a big deal either way. For the record, my version of this deck would be:

CHeers.
No I don't. I received two of them in a trade. I'll probably buy a full set though, the card is nuts.
I didn't intend to go full-goblin, but after playtesting a white/red token spell deck with Cathar's Crusade etc., I was less than inspired. It just left me feeling flat and bored.
The thing is, a decent Goblin deck IS VERY GOOD in MP.
Taking out a few goblins and replacing them with a few low-CMC enchantments doesn't change that fact, if anything, it puts a clock on decks that could usually stop goblins cold with their Ensnaring Bridge's and the like. Which I like a LOT.
RE: Norin. Yeah I think you're right in most respects.
Part of me likes it because we play quite large games every now and then, like 8-9 players, so whilst I agree completely that it's a poor choice in most small games with a tribal goblin shell, it's those big games that has me thinking about how effective the card can be.
RE: Moggcatcher, I like the card for potentially fetching threats. It's not a goblin, but then again, fetching a SGC turn after turn is why it's in the deck, and why I was meaning to run 3 SGC.
Thanks for all the advice boys and girls.
I'm really liking the Goblin tribal approach to Tremors/Purphoros. My final decision will be to run mono-red for Valakut, or splashing for something fun to play with. Black has access to some nice tribal stuff like Wort, Boggart Auntie, Weirding Shaman, Boggart Mob & Grenzo, Dungeon warden.
If we're talking goblins, I can't think of any reason to splash any other colour...

People dislike taking consistent "poke damage" and I often see cards like Impact Tremors targeted by removal as a result. The thing is that with 4x Goblin Matron and 4x Goblin Ringleader you don't really need mana sinks. SGC is obviously a step above most other gobos but there's also something to be said about casting good spells every turn that don't really care about removal. I'm not saying that Krenko is amazing against removal, he's not, but his ROI is basically one untap step whereas I personally believe that you need to activate Moggcatcher multiple times in order to extract value from your 4 mana 2/2. Since I'd rather just chain Ringleaders into Matrons fetching more Ringleaders I couldn't envision average use-case scenarios where I sit on a Moggcatcher and activate every turn.
For what it's worth I don't like Goblin Lackey in big games unless no one runs cheap spot removal. The card is a jillion times more threatening than 99.99% of other turn 1-2 plays (it's basically a Black Lotus every turn) and you'd have to be oblivious to leave it alive. I realize that some people are relatively new to the game and I don't hold that against them, people will lose to that card once or twice, but I usually find myself playing with relatively experienced players who know that you kill the Lackey on sight. I actually think that it's almost unplayable heh.
Skirk Prospector is better than a 25th land btw. Sometimes it's a Lotus Petal, that obviously sucks, but you'd be amazed at how frequently you'll use the ramp + free sacrifice outlet. Just play it and you'll see what I'm talking about; it's way better than it looks.

1-cmc removal isn't common in my group. Even though I own 4 Lackey I only wanna play 1 at most.
I'm not aiming to force people into calling me a ****-knuckle and call for banning Lackey. ;P
Our group generally has a mix of seasoned players and a few newbies, most of whom have some very decent decks.
Prospector is a card I own also, I know the value here.
Given the amount of 4-drops here, being able to drop one on turn 3, or drop Goblin Warchief on turn2 is definitely a play worth doing.
You've got me curious, and I'm drawing a blank. What scenario's would I sac goblins for any reason other than pseudo-ramp, given we have no sac-effects?

Prevent exile, deny/hinder card card (Electrolyze), deny theft, fizzle buybacks and random other value that you don't think about when building the deck. I'm sure that I'm forgetting plenty of interactions but I've been pleased to run one in my lists. The ability has more than enough relevance in my experience.
A big thank you Prid3, and also to everyone else who has contributed to this thread.
I've made a few changes (mostly getting Ringleader in here and going full-goblin) and the deck runs as expected. The word that comes to mind is;
Inevitability.
Good tip on haste enablers Prid3.
Mono-red is where I'm at for now, maybe a black splash in future when I get bored.
I'll no doubt test out -4 Impact tremors, add a full set of Purphoros in future, and see if there's any big difference in how effectively the deck runs.
No love for Empty the Warrens? I reckon you could easily end up with a decent storm count once you get rolling with Skullclamp.
If you fall out of mono-red at some point and go for the Jeskai Ascendancy build, one of my friends is currently rocking it in our playgroup, so I can probably snag a decklist for you (suffice to say it involves a lot of Brightstone Rituals, Jeskai Ascendancy, Krenko, Empty the Warrens and Purph for the win).
I've changed the deck a little, but not a lot, after playing it a few times. Creature sweepers suck for us, but as long as you keep a Matron or a Ringleader in hand you can usually reset fairly quickly. For this reason I've decided to include a couple Blasphemous Act to try and bring down a table worth of creatures when I'm being ganged up on.
I've realised we need a little more interaction here, so I've included a few more goblin-options that can interact with the board, like Arms Dealer & lightning Crafter.
As far as cutting Impact Tremors goes. I've tried running 4 Purph's only and it's not quite the same due to ringleader. I like the Tremors in here.
This is my group's chief Spike, so he will have the manabase to suit, obviously. Swap it around with a grain of salt. If you have enough Terramorphics and Mystic Monastery, it will likely still work well enough without the $150 land base.
I wanna make Impact Tremors into a deck, but I'm a little unsure how to get the best out of it.
Bear in mind my group uses sweepers, of both the creatures and enchantment/artefact variety, so the deck can't utterly rely on Impact Tremors
Here's my initial idea;
4 Impact Tremors
2 Purphoros, God of the Forge
2-3 Norin the Wary
2-3 Genesis Chamber
1 Skullclamp (limited @1 in my group)
1 Pyrohemia (synergy with Norin, just play something or attack)
Lotsa Mountains, Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle, Kher Keep.
Faithless Looting & Outpost Siege for finding/discarding land and draw.
Blasphemous Act & Hammer of Purphoros could potentially find a part in here too, as could some cheap equipment like Grafted Wargear.
From here, I could pad the deck out with Goblins like Mogg War Marshal, utility like Moggcatcher to grab Siege-Gang COmmander, Krenko, Mob Boss etc. Given I have a tonne of great Goblin cards this will be an easy and brainless pad-out job.
Alternatively, I could even chuck in a singleton Koth of the Hammer and go full-
retardmountain, with token spells, Myriad Landscape's etc.But...
Should I stay in mono-red?
Is the draw available from Mentor of the Meek, the token producing options like Secure the Wastes and answers in White worth the splash?
Either way, what would you do? What other cards could I chuck in?

I've made a few changes (mostly getting Ringleader in here and going full-goblin) and the deck runs as expected. The word that comes to mind is;
Inevitability.
Good tip on haste enablers Prid3.
Mono-red is where I'm at for now, maybe a black splash in future when I get bored.
I'll no doubt test out -4 Impact tremors, add a full set of Purphoros in future, and see if there's any big difference in how effectively the deck runs.
Cheers Boys.

Not as yet.
I'd love to see a decklist!

My mate is off on his honeymoon ATM, so I can only go off memory for now, but it will be something along the lines of...
4 Empty the Warrens
4 Brightstone Ritual
2 Ponder
2 Preordain
2 Brainstorm
2 Serum Visions
2 Goblin Bombardment
2 Faithless Looting
1 Blasphemous Act
1 Psychic Spiral
1 Chandra, Pyromaster
3 Krenko, Mob Boss
3 Purphoros, God of the Forge
1 Flooded Strand
1 Scalding Tarn
1 Arid Mesa
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Hallowed Fountain
4 Steam Vents
1 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
2 Mountain
2 Plains
3 Island
This is my group's chief Spike, so he will have the manabase to suit, obviously. Swap it around with a grain of salt. If you have enough Terramorphics and Mystic Monastery, it will likely still work well enough without the $150 land base.
