I am looking for some help... OK, OK I'm desperate for help here on this one. The wife has already granted me some liberty on buying some new cards and this is what I have come up with so far. ANY help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I want to be able to put worldspine wurm in. I am completely torn on vexing shusher vs spellskite and I am trying to find cheaper alternatives to the fetch lands IE verdant catacombs and misty rainforest.
OHH I forgot to mention that I play with a lot of the damn dirty blue counter spells, black and there removal and of course white. I would LOOOVE to beat the snot out of my friend that plays blue and his counter spell drake deck.
First thing's first; I'll have to get a bit of information from you.
How big are your games (# of players)?
What is your banned/restricted list? For everyone's sake I hope that you use SOMETHING because otherwise you could build decks that could very, very, very easily win in the first 3 turns of the game. Like, you could literally just play 4x Flash and 4x Protean Hulk with a bunch of tutors like Demonic Tutor + Summoner's Pact and kill everyone on turn 1 or 2.
Even if you ignore that combo you could, for example, play Squirrel Nest + Earthcraft and just kill everyone with a zillion tokens on turn 3-4. The point that I'm trying to make is that if you're playing in a 0 restriction environment then we can build one insanely OP deck for you. Even if we just put 4x Skullclamp in a creature-based deck that's still going to be tough to beat. Like, imagine your Arbor Elf + Lotus Cobra deck alongside Fastbond, Skullclamp, Treasure Cruise, Tendrils of Agony... you can very easily win the game on turn 3 or 4 lol. Oh, and your friend can counter single instances of Tendrils of Agony all he wants :3.
How sensitive are people to combo kills? That is, if I built you a deck that cast Primal Surge + Concordant Crossroads to win the game outright would it offend people? The vast majority of my P.Surge decks fuel it with Sylvan Primordial and hopefully win the game the following turn.
How prevalent are Blue mages? That is, how good does Carpet of Flowers figure to be? I don't think that I need to explain why this card is horrendously overpowered in metas where people are putting Islands into play every turn. I know that you explicitly stated that there was a Blue mage but it's possible that he doesn't necessarily play all the time, use Islands, etc. I just want to know how good you expect Carpet of Flowers to be on average.
Thank you for the reply sorry it took me so long to get back to you work got busy. I play with 4+ other people most of the time its 6. I do try and go to FNM here in Tokyo and the Japanese are fantics about this game!!! no lie...
We do try and follow the legacy rules IE no black lotus (couldn't afford it anyways) so no demonic tutors. The guys i play with have been playing for 10+ years and NOT very helpful to the noobie returning player so I would have a serious wet dream if I could just crush their faces =) They play all colors really mainly blue, white and black. Lots of control. They love stealing my land/creatures and countering my stuff A LOT! hence why I put in dense foliage.
Very VERY honest they are not all that offended if they get combo smoked =)...I would definatly give you all the credit! I would even consider having your babies!

O_O
You may want to consider decaf when you play MtG... just a thought.
lol sorry I'm jacked up on coffee at work! I have this complete and total desire to crush these guys. They kill me off first " easy " target I suppose and then I go kill all the beer until next game.
We can probably find you a way to take these guys down but I'll still some more help. First of all, what do you mean when you say they steal your lands? Part of me wants to build you a Cloudpost deck to abuse those Primeval Titans of yours. We can fetch a bunch of Posts (and Boseiju, Who Shelters All) to cast Primal Surge which should make the game relatively easy to win from there. Still, the Cloudpost strategy isn't very good if people are destroying your lands. You can (and should) run Crop Rotation to somewhat offset the risk of land destruction but it's not a be-all-end-all solution by any means.
Otherwise you're just plain not playing the right kinds of threats. You need more Blurred Mongooses, Great Sable Stags, Thrun, the Last Trolls, Gaea's Revenges, Genesis Hydra, etc. If people want to interact with you, **** them. You can just play a ton of threats that they won't be able to touch. In case you're wondering about Genesis Hydra, note that the spell that it casts for free can't actually be countered. You can counter/kill/bounce the Hydra itself, that all works, but you can't stop it from giving you a free threats. It's like a Bloodbraid Elf in that sense (which, by the way, is also very good against Control). Anyways, you can still play Lotus Cobra if you want, those kinds of cards are strong, but you don't really want to play Hydra Omnivore against the "all removal" decks. Just Gaea's Revenge and smash their face. Sylvan Primordial is also insane in multiplayer because once you resolve one of those it's going to be tough to lose. Even if you don't play with Cloudposts you can still win the game with big mana just by using Primeval Titan + Sylvan Primordial to find Kessig Wolf Run + Mountain and from then on every Blurred Mongoose (or whatever) in your deck becomes INSANE. What does a Control deck do to beat that? It can't be countered, killed, bounced, stolen... you HAVE to Wrath it. Great Sable Stag, Troll Ascetic, Dungrove Elder, Thrun, the Last Troll, Gaea's Revenge... just how many Wraths will they have?
Another card worth mentioning is City of Solitude since it shuts out counters. Defense Grid is very solid too. I'd still like to know how many Islands that you play against because Carpet of Flowers is another card that can potentially be insane. A Blue deck just doesn't want to play against a turn 1 Carpet EVER. Between these kinds of cards I'm fairly confident that we can build something workable for you.
Bloodchief Ascension is super easy to get online against a bunch of control decks, although I don't know what kind of enchant removal is being played. I doubt that much is being played, because it sounds like these guys play pretty greedy decks.
The creature version, Cavern of Souls, is pricey, but is very effective in resolving your Primetimes, Primordials, Garys, Jarads, etc... All cards that hose control decks.
You can also play Luminarch Ascension. I mean, all the wraths/creature removal in the world can't save them from that... And playing against control decks, it will go off quickly and often.
The blue deck uses cards like annex to steal my lands so they can use them for whatever they want (side note how do you link cards so you can see them?)
He likes also likes to use cards that " take control of target permanent "
The other guys use some artifacts that use imprint? and just makes imprints all night long.
The white he is life gaining like no other and uses a lot of what they call " tribal soldiers "
Black does either infect or straight up beat damage
Black/blue does counter spells and his theme is ninjas make them unblockable and then goes thru his deck for another ninja or goes thru my deck and picks a creature or goes thru my graveyard for a creature real pain in the butt.
inkwell leviathan that's a mean looking card. I'm glad its a 7 drop to put out!
Doesn't cavern of souls only work on 1 type of creature and that's it? so if I have 4 primeval titans I only get to use it 4 times total? Sorry I know these are noob questions =(
You should listen to Cz and replace your Utopia Sprawls with Carpet of Flowers. You have three opposing players who play blue/black, so it'll generate a ton of mana. Like Primeval Titan on turn 3 mana. Dungrove Elder really shines when you play monogreen, so you might consider taking out the fetchlands and just using Forests + some spell lands. Since you have a player who likes to steal permanents and another one who robs cards from your graveyard, it might be worth it to put in a copy of Homeward Path. You can use Primeval Titan to grab it as soon as you hit 6 mana and past that point their cards will be dead. Kessig Wolf Run is another 1-of you can put in and start using to Fireball your opponents.
Also, you link to cards by clicking the card symbol near the top of the text box. It'll create card tags for you.
If you look at lands like Steam Vents, notice that it says it is a island and a mountain. All of the "shock lands" (or, come into play tapped unless you pay two life) and all of the A/B/U/R dual lands (like Volcanic Island and the like) count as islands. I obviously have no idea what dual lands other people at yoru table use... but do they also not play any basic islands?
fire ball would be a nice touch to finish them off with =). I like your evilness sir!
He meant a figurative Fireball, not a literal one. Kessig Wolf Run more-or-less allows you to damage people for X in the same way that Fireball allows you to damage people for X. The reason why Kessig Wolf Run is infinitely more valuable is that Primeval Titan can fetch it, it taps for mana until you need it (whereas Fireball does actual nothing but rot in your hand), it can't be countered, it's re-usable, etc. So yeah, he wasn't actually telling you to run Fireball. If you wanted burn in MP in a GB deck you would just play Exsanguinate. He was just comparing Kessig Wolf Run to Fireball because they both deal X damage for X mana.
You don't really need 3x Dense Foliage when the majority of your deck ignores removal/theft. Cut down to 1 or 2 tops.
Where did the Primeval Titans go :<? That card is awesome!
Dosan the Falling Leaf is a lot worse than City of Solitude since it can easily be interacted with. A 2/2 body is relevant, I'm not saying otherwise, but it's so much easier to remove.
I'm sad to see the Lotus Cobras gone. I like that card.
Utopia Sprawl is a weak Magic card. I think that you should try Carpet of Flowers unless people aren't playing the duals that we're thinking of. As previously explained it triggers off of ANY Island, not just basic Islands, so things like Tropical Island and Watery Grave count.
All-in-all the deck looks a lot better now though. People will not have an easy time interacting with you.
ahh OK I apologize for my ignorance. OK I will put in carpet of flowers as well and add lotus cobra back while removing joraga treespeaker.
Ghadi AKA Dosan is gone as well and replaced with City of Solitude. Primeval Titan is still in!
a couple of the guys have cards that say " take control of target permanent " if he snatches my carpet of flowers that would effectively double his mana correct?
If someone casts Confiscate on your Carpet of Flowers then they most likely won't get much out of it. Carpet makes you choose an opponent and add mana to your mana pool equal to the Islands that opponent controls. So if a Blue player steals it, they have to choose one of THEIR opponents to determine how much mana they get. So in order for them to get anything, there needs to be two Blue players at the table. That being said, a single copy of Homeward Path will essentially negate his entire deck. By the time he gets 6 mana together to cast Confiscate, you should have long since been able to land a Primeval Titan, using its ability to search for a Homeward Path. Then it's just a matter of beating his face in with your huge mana combined with Kessig Wolf Run.

^ This. The reason why Carpet of Flowers is so busted is that it can often "tap" for 2 mana on turn 2, 3 mana on turn 3, etc. Remember, you can cast in your first main phase, move to your second and IMMEDIATELY gain access to the mana. You can use that mana to power out a throng of beaters and kill the Blue mage off before he take control of the board.
Hey guys just wanted to give a quick update. I played a one game last night with U/B. The Carpet of flowers is AWESOME! Great advice on that seriously. With the land homeward path it says creatures so it wouldn't work on Carpet of flowers because its an enchantment correct?
With dense foliage out on turn 2 and city of solitude on turn 3 the board was locked down girl friend was stuck with a bunch of removals she could do nothing with it was great. The Primeval titans came did the job they were supposed to do. " results " she got pissed at me and didn't wanna talk to me for the rest of the night.
Changes I made. I dropped lotus cobra for Joraga Treespeaker and it seemed to really ramp up much faster. I'll try adding it back in and playing some more. I do have a question if I am not playing a blue player then would I switch back to Utopia Sprawl or would you recommend something else?

There's a reason why I asked about it like 5 times :3.
prid3 I wish you could have seen the look of PURE rage in her face it was priceless! At last I'm not the butt of the jokes now. She called her goonie friends No not the cool goonies on the movie and they are all a chatter <insert evil laugh> I'll update ya on the big game on Saturday!
hey guys got an update from multiplayer. 5 players mainly black and splash of blue. I went undefeated that night even with an all out all vs all. For some reason they didn't all gang up on me this time, which is odd normally they are like coyotes and eat the weak. I played a blue black ninja deck lots of control and removal. White blue that I didn't get to see much of because dense foliage and city of solitude shut him down even after he switched out to his zombie deck. AAAAAgro black was in and he was shut down fairly quickly as well but he is a novice player.
Green tribal throw together deck was present and was a clear threat from the beginning with all his creatures out very early. Over all I am VERY very please with how the deck did! Thank you all for your help Prid3 thank you for being patient with me I really appreciate you helping this noob out =)
So I am gonna finish purchasing the rest of the cards in the next week or so but I wanted to try and increase the mana ramp. Still a turn 6-7 deck I would like it to be 4-5 if possible. I wish you could have seen their faces lol. They did throw out the ban hammer on the primal surge deck they said it wasn't fun for them and it got boring with me swarming them at the end.
Prid3 just wanted to give another update so far in multiplayer I am undefeated!!! Its actually nice to be on top for a change. The group has grown a lot and now they are plotting to take out my enchantments. They absolutely despise Primal Surge they say its a cheat card and that I am playing it wrong, in the aspect that I am dumping my entire library and swinging for kill damage on all 6 of them now 8. Wish you were local I would buy you a beer or two and talk magic. They are talking about adding in forestwalk as well and I figure I'll just throw a beat down on them before it will matter.
I had a couple questions if you don't mind?
1. You think adding a whip of Erebo's in or can you recommend a better life gaining card? Reason why is they are wanting to play a new playstyle called "whipping boy" they all gang up on 1 person.
2. You think I need any further mana ramping? still a turn 3-5 before I am crushing face.
3. Are there cards like Carpet of Flowers for other type of lands IE swamp, mountain?

Glad to hear that you're destroying your meta :).
1. Thragtusk and Exsanguinate are my go-to lifegain spells in their respective colors. That being said I can definitely get behind adding a Whip to this deck. Lifelink is awesome and the recursion isn't trivial by any means. That being said I do strongly recommend buying a playset of Thragtusks and trying them out. The card is beastly (literally).
2. You play about as much ramp as I do. The problem with ramp (in general) is that it's absolutely horrendous if you draw too much of it. Draw too little and you fall behind and lose, draw too much and you do nothing and lose. There's no one right answer that I can give you but what I can say is that I generally err on the side of caution and run "too little" more often than I run "too much." There's just no worse feeling that drawing 3-4 ramp spells only to have your 1-2 key threats countered or killed.
3. Carpet of Flowers has no cousins for other land types (at least not that I'm aware of). If need be you just have to run weaker cards since they still get the job done.
