Corny titles aside, I was inspired by the fun I've had with my copies of the Dissension theme decks, and decided to start putting together a little tournament in my area with some friends. The idea is that everyone gets a theme deck from the original Ravnica block, and then we let the Guild Wars begin! I figure we could have everyone draw from a hat to determine the deck they get, and then five draw from another hat to determine their first opponent. With a non-power-of-2 as the total number of players, brackets might be a little confusing, but it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out. The group I have so far is really excited about this, and I hope to utilize the soon-to-be-released Game Findr app to involve new people! Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas that could improve this, and, on the other hand, does anyone see any problems or gaps in this plan? Thanks for your suggestions!!! Also, I love polls, so feel free to vote!
Edit: Does anyone know how the power levels of the theme decks compare between the sets?
Ok, so, there are two ways you could do this, and it's pure preference.
Make it 60 cards, commander rules. Ensure you have 1 of each of the leaders of the guilds. Write the names of the guilds on a piece of paper, and draft them around, that way people get to pick their guild, but no one can pick the same guild. Then they get the leader of their guild that they have to play as their commander, and then they have to make decks around that commander.
Another, more balanced way to do this is to use a ravnica cube, so that way it's not dependent upon the cards someone owns.
