So, you think you're better than the wizards, huh? Well let's find out.
I wanna hear your homebrew variants. Specifically, i'm looking for things that take a standard (Not standard as in the format, standard as in 60 cards, no more than 4 of a card but a BL) Magic deck, and the variants you use to play with them.
I'm looking for variants to spice up my playing with my girlfriend and I. I love the game, but she gets bored after a few games. So let me hear your best ideas to shake the game up, and i'll try to compile them, and we as a forum can make a big Salvation Homebrew, with all our spoons in teh chef pot.
Good luck!!

Whats the big deal about black lotus you ask? Well you see, there is no big deal about it. It IS the big deal.
I am also looking for variants for more than two players, if that is helpful at all. Two man variants seem to get a little stale, and require a lot of reaching, but variants for 3-4 people besides free for all and 2HG seem like they could have some promise and fun ways to play. I've mulled around planechase and archenemy, but it is tough without having the cards, and i don't really want to spend that money to buy a pack of them.

A nice multi-player variant is "Attack Left" (or right - doesn't matter). It's still technically free for all (you can attack and cast spells against anyone), but all you really need to do is kill the guy to your left to win the game.
What's cool about this is that tempo/aggro decks can still thrive. In normal multi-player, those decks simply can't win because they don't have enough gas to kill everyone at the table. But with this variant, you really only need to worry about killing one guy. It's faster than traditional multi-player too since it isn't about killing everyone. Once the first person dies, the game ends.
There's interesting strategy that develops. You tend to start off playing a 1 vs 1 variant but as life totals drop you start thinking about trying to keep people alive so that you have more time to kill your target. It gets really interesting. Most multi-player games become a gang-up situation against the person winning. But that doesn't work here since killing someone only wins the game for one person. So that just doesn't tend to happen.
That's a pretty cool idea. Pretty much every time i end up playing with my playgroup it becomes everybody against one person, so that would be a really good way to remedy the situation. I'll have to try it out.

If you have android, there is an app for planechase, it's meant to be played with everyone having a deck and all the planes cards each player has benefits them, but, me and my group just use one deck and all the cards, it jeeps things interesting.
I do have an android! Do you have the name of the app? Because that sounds awesome, and i've wanted to be able to play planechase.
Unless the app is paid, because i don't feel like making an account to drop 1.99 on it. Or unless it's over 1.99, in that case i'll use my computer for it.

It is free, and it is called Magic Planes, the only downside is that when you edit the decklist, you can't see what the planes do, you have to read what they do and write it down or just remember what they do.
So this is a method my playgroup and I are enjoying. Thought I'd share it.
Basically all decks are block constructed decks from any block since M10 (all core sets count as 1 single big block).
Each deck consists of 59 cards and 1 commander (basically a block constructed deck but with a commander). The commander can be any rare or mythic rare creature.
We each end up having a multitude of decks and many fun variant strategies.
I just built a scars of mirrodin kuldotha forgemaster deck. A friend of mine just built an Omnath Eldrazi ramp deck. You get the idea.
Every third turn, players place hands on tables then move one seat to the left. You may or may not take the life total with you, or leave it attached to the deck.
This is more entertaining with lots of people.
Cheers!
