I'd like help building a functional, casual, legacy-legal deck that two players could play from while playing against one another, but that could also interact meaningfully in more traditional games. I'd like help brainstorming suggestions for effects that interact in interesting ways with other cards in the deck in both co-operative and disruptive ways (inb4 slivers).
A good example of this kind of interaction is Delver of Secrets and Brainstorm. Another related interaction: cards that put things on top of their owner's library
I want this to be spell-slingy, featuring lots of instants and cards with flash. I want to avoid tutors and combos, as I worry that will turn the game into a race to get the "good cards."
I've contemplated similiar shared decks, but never got beyond the drafting on paper stage.
Still, some thoughts I had were:
All five colors
(Basic) lands deck separate from spells deck; when drawing, active player decides which deck to draw from
Lots of flashback, reanimation, and top/bottom of library effects
No deck searching, to include landfetching
Alternatively, landfetching allowed but only for basics - would work well with separate lands deck
Single copies of everything except cards like Accumulated Knowledge
Lots of symmetrical effects and spells
Targeted landkill gets mean
My draft list quickly exceeded 300 nonlands, which is why I never built it.
