Custom Format: LRIG Avatar
Elder Dragon Highlander Multiplayer Variant
Starting Life Total: 30
Deck Size: 40 spells + Avatar
Avatar: Must be a Planeswalker with a +1 ability
Deck must be within colour identity of Avatar.
Singleton deck.
Avatars begin the game in the command zone.
You begin the game with zero LRIG counters.
LRIG counters must be clearly shown to all players at any time.
LRIG counters are not within any game zones and cannot ever be on a permanent or player.
You may activate your Avatar’s +1 ability from the command zone.
As long as your Avatar is in the command zone, you can only activate its +1 ability.
Whenever you activate your Avatar’s +1 ability from the command zone, you gain one LRIG counter.
There is no mana pool.
You may cast any spell with converted mana cost equal to or lesser than your LRIG counter total.
Effects and abilities requiring mana may be paid, as long as the mana needed for the effects or abilities is equal to or lesser than the your LRIG total.
The number of activated abilities you may activate and spells you may cast a turn is in total equal to or lesser than your LRIG counter total.
(With 4 LRIG you may cast 4 spells, or you may play 4 abilities, or you may play 2 spells and 2 abilities... etc)
You may cast your Avatar from the command zone when your LRIG counter total is equal to or greater than its converted mana cost.
An avatar may be cast from the command zone any number of times.
When an Avatar is cast, it enters the battlefield at its base loyalty.
When on the battlefield, all abilities may be activated.
If an Avatar would be destroyed, exiled, bounced, or tucked, it is instead returned to the command zone.
Avatar status is designated to the physical card and at no time can its status as an Avatar be changed.
This is a format that I thought of near a year ago. I have spent the time evolving it from a super broken format, in which players start a modern game with an indestructible planeswalker, to a Limited Infinity + EDH sort of play style.
I will find more ways to make this mode playable and hopefully enjoyable and will soon create a banlist.
For now, ordinary Multiplayer Commander / EDH ban list applies as well as any spells and abilities which have the word "Land" within its texts.
