Has anyone tried playing "reverse" magic? Anyone familiar with Losing/Suicide chess might have an idea of what I'm talking about. It's when you play a game with the intent of losing, and the person who "loses" wins the game. Don't know if this has been done before in Magic, but here's an idea of how it might work:
- Alternate/randomize Games 1,2,3 to be regular or reverse magic, that way people will try to build decks with the intention of winning.
- Players play with their hands revealed during Reverse games, and you don't control your turn - your opponent does. S/he gets to make your decisions during your turn.
The best version of this I've seen is Reverse Drafting. You try to draft the worst possible pool, then trade it with another player. You get points for winning with the pile you were handed, and also for the pile you drafted losing.

Yep, Backdraft is my second most fun format, right behind Legacy. So much laughter: eleventh pick between Lightning Bolt, Fireball, Serra Angel and Mahamoti Djinn is always a head scratcher.

A long time ago, I thought about this, but it does not work. It is far to easy to kill yourself with things like Wall of Blood.
There has to be at least some other complication like you said above to make it even possibly viable.
A friend and I played 'Suicide' format. 20 life, all normal MTG rules, Legacy banlist, first one to lose the game wins the game. (Rules Violations do not result in a 'win')
Banlist ended up looking like this after a few rounds:
- Alternate/randomize Games 1,2,3 to be regular or reverse magic, that way people will try to build decks with the intention of winning.
- Players play with their hands revealed during Reverse games, and you don't control your turn - your opponent does. S/he gets to make your decisions during your turn.
...I don't know, thoughts?

There may have been more, I lost my documentation on it. This still left quite a few Turn 2 kills, such as Cavern Harpy, Spatial Binding, Hibernation Sliver, and maybe more.
In the end, we decided to migrate to a cube draft format to make it a turn 4+ format. Here's the list I came up with.
