I think a BWG control deck from Ravnica could easily hold off the top tiers.
Leyline of the Void kills Gifts, 'tog.
Castigate, Cry of Contrition, etc kills control and combo.
Suppression Field kills Slide.
Culling Sun, Hierarch, Fetters kills goblins.
Glare kills Affinity, goblins, madness, any aggro.
I would easily be happy to take a Triad Control into a Block Party. That's what I'm planning on doing once I get a few more duals.
Paper Block Party, the best deck is probally the UG Hermitt-Opposition decks from Urza's. They play some good counters and can easily lock the opponent out of the game.
As for mtgo, I do think that BWg Beach House has the possibility to do very well. It's cards are much stronger thna Gift's and it's just as versatile or more thanks to Dimir House Guard for either Void or Fetters/hierarch.
Madness and Domain decks ruled the Invitational so you have to assume that the format will start to gravitate towards them. Also a deck that wasn't played but I feel is very powerful is Itaru Ishida's URW Control deck that he won GP Kobe with.
