The live video webcast will feature Rich Hagon, Brian David-Marshall, Sheldon Menery, Rashad Miller, Marshall Sutcliffe, and Zac Hill calling the action.
It starts in roughly 10 hours from my post. Starting times for Saturday and Sunday can be found here.
The format is block constructed as well as RTR block draft.
What do you think the break out card will be?
What do you think will be the most played deck?
What deck do you think will win the PT?
Which card do you think will increase the most in price (paper or mtgo)?
How many games of Block do you think the commentators have played (combined) in preparation for commentating this event? I'll set the over/under at 3 games played.
It's a shame JVL isn't on the team, his column yesterday was actually quite good and showed a much greater insight into the format than his one a few weeks ago which, I assume, means he's actually played it a bit. I think i'd take your under...
Breakout card: voice, with aetherling not far behind. I expect that voice will start moving from sideboards to maindecks in standard decks once this event is over (it's already the second most creature played in standard atm by some measures, but most copies are in the sideboard). I also expect that the event will reveal aetherling as clearly the best finisher for UWx control, over angel which many are still sticking too.
Most played: Esper control. Pros like the deck regardless of results, and I think it can put up results in block.
win: crapshoot, but I'm guessing 3 archetypes in the top 8, none of them aggro (because the attendees will stay away from mono red, as it doesn't give them much opportunity to outplay and they all think they're awesome and no other aggro deck is as good). GW, esper and GB, the GW and GB decks may do a light blue or white splash, respectively.
Yeah I think the break out card will be voice. My next guess would be ral zarek. I think some team could play that card as a 4 of and it'd go up to at least 20 tickets.
There's this sweet rug deck that utilize ral zarek's +1 ability by removing blockers, piloted by PT GTC top 8 competitor Stephan Mann. It also has domri.
Voice will be the "breakout card" though I feel that is somewhat of an oxymoron because it pretty much already has broken out. Next up in my opinion will be Varolz, the Scar-Striped.
Pros are pretty notorious for loving their control, so UWx control will be the most played. Personally I think bant will be more prevalent than esper as leaning on voice to help with the control match up will be a good move.
Win I'm guessing something outside the main, possibly an aggro deck well tuned to the expected meta. Block is so unexplored outside of MTGO (which has a heavy heavy bias toward aggro, RDW in particular) that a deck could be built that won't have to fight waves of aggro and does well against control.
Price increase would probably be Aetheringling or Obzedat.
My guess would be less than 10 games from the commentators. Block is small they may not feel as much of a need to know the minute details of the format.
not sure if I'm missing something, but in the game three in the round between rachid and nassif, the commentators said he was attacking for 5 with kraul warrior on turn 3, but kraul warrior costs 5G to pump. I didn't see an enchantment on it or anything

Being only rare I don't see it getting over 6 or 7, or if that will last long.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I think people are looking for cards that will survive rotation on the upside. Of course we have no idea what's in Theros right now.
Maze's End Deck right now.

Green gatekeeper in the mazes end deck could make it work.
He's got them. I was kind of hoping this was a deck because Land D is pretty weak in this block (like weak enough the colors who could play it wouldn't).
You do need to play redundant gates to avoid mill/discard effects.
I was hoping a pro would play this. I didn't expect it to be doing so well right now.

Fogs sweepers and removal make it very feasible. I also am surprised as to how well it's doing.
meta is mostly esper decks, fair bit of bant, some maze's end control (doing pretty well, it beats up esper), a bit of GB and some aggro, mostly heavy red some mono some splash white. That's all iv'e seen, no idea of overall stats, except esper which was listed as most popular deck in one of the written features.
Thx for the link. There's actually 26 maze end decks if you count both variants. And if you combine selesnya and its slight bant variant it has 35 which is close to 2nd.
50% revelation decks is insane tho, shame there's only one madness combo deck!
I didn't get to watch the constructed portion sadly. However I was tracking some prices, and noticed aetherling is up to 4.5 tickets on card bot. I bought 2 of them earlier today at 2 tickets each.
the problem with the gate deck is you can lose too much tempo playing that many tapped lands.
I really want to see some lists for some of these decks. Are they posted on the internet yet? Where would I find them?
There are two people playing the madness deck (one bug one grixis), grixis control, esper aggro, and I really want to see the maze's end lists.
I didn't get to watch too much of the construced portion yesterday (but I'll be watching today). Seemed like everytime I started watching I saw esper control.

If MTG is a part of your life, the formats are like relationships:
Standard/Block = The on-again, off-again holiday fling
Modern/Vintage/Legacy = Stable, homely. A ***** after absence/misreading
Limited/Sealed = Heart breaking free spirit
Commander/Cube = Agreeable, needy and expensive
Pauper/Peasant = Sweet, kind, practical, but shy and boring

I mean, coming into DGM esper overwhelmingly outclassed every other deck. You could argue that RDW is high tier, but it's just not. Also, I feel like some of the pros would rather not play something as brain dead as rdw.

I think GW will be the most played deck. Not all pros can play nor want to play sphinx's revelation decks.
Since the top 8 is best of 5. I'd say esper will win it since I think esper can make any match up better than 50% with the sideboard.
Pros are pretty notorious for loving their control, so UWx control will be the most played. Personally I think bant will be more prevalent than esper as leaning on voice to help with the control match up will be a good move.

pvr is playing esper, not surprisingly.
Watching Varolz, the Scar-Striped piss off Supreme Verdict. It's up a ticket right now with not many sellers.
Being only rare I don't see it getting over 6 or 7, or if that will last long.
It's going to take a format rotation to get good.

It starts out with 3 rounds of draft. It looks like the constructed part won't start for another 5-6 hours after drafting based on yesterday.
