My local casual community is really competetive, the are no bans and no restrictions
It would be a crime to not play 4 Sol Ring, priced at around $3 a piece right now and easily one of the best cards in Magic. That lets you cheat up the curve quite a bit.
Other ridiculous cards you can play 4-of include Skullclamp ($2 each), Balance ($2 each), Tinker ($3 each), Treasure Cruise (pennies), Strip Mine ($7.60 each, maybe a bit pricy), Mind Twist ($3 each), Gush (under $2 each), Oath of Druids ($1.50 each). That opens up a lot of creative budget deck options that don't match any Vintage, Legacy, or Modern-legal deck archetypes.
This is 8-Rack playing 4 Mind Twist and 4 Balance as big-scale hand disruption. Since this is a creatureless deck, Balance wipes the board for 2 mana. This list doesn't really optimize the use of Sol Ring and Balance. You could cut some spells for an additional noncreature finisher and use for colorless mana (e.g. Phyrexian Totem, Chimeric Idol).
Ok, this is just a stupid brew I came up with in 2 minutes. There should be a much better way to build this. Basically, you play an almost creatureless deck using Tinker or Oath of Druids to cheat out some big artifact fatty from your library. I picked extremely budget choices, but feel free to use any finishers or board into specific answers for the opponent's deck. The artifact cantrips are to have a high enough artifact count for Tinker to work and to help fix between 3 colors of mana. Oh, and because this deck is almost creatureless, hi Balance!
Skullclamp Affinity, without expensive cards like Arcbound Ravager and Glimmervoid and Mox Opal. It uses Sol Ring to help power out artifacts and equip costs a bit faster (that's why Myr Enforcer instead of Frogmite). Instead of 4 Thoughtcast in the spell slot, I just went ahead and threw in Tinker... because you can. Myr Battlesphere synergizes a bit with Master and Signal Pest and Cranial Plating and can be hardcast off Sol mana in a pinch, but you could easily run some other Tinkerbots instead. If this deck is below budget enough, feel free to Tinker into Blightsteel Colossus.
Here's a deck that I run that is pretty fun to play. It has a decent level of power and a strong game. However im not sure what your basis for "Combo" is. You could really call anything a combo if you use a card to make something happen. The only "comboish" thing in this list , in my opinion, is putting Sphinx of the Steel Wind in off of Sharuum. Either way, here's the list. If its not what you're looking for my apologies
Ok, Ive been playing this list for a while and I have to say it is pretty amazing, but it has very weak matchup with 1-drop decks, because dealing with someting already on battlefield is much like impossible:
Big problem is that my judge banned Mental Misstep. And he also banned Sol Ring, so I can't play this cool Affinity deck. I think it is about time to play some Bogles, what would you guys change in this list?
