Quick backstory: Been playing MTG since the transition between Legends and Dark. Haven't played consistently in about 15 years. I am getting together with some out-of-town friends that used to play up through Urza's block later on this month. We had played a couple times recently with cards we already had and with some randoms that we had bought to play with the last couple times we got together. I would like some assistance with this, but keep in mind that I am only using cards that I still have or cards that are not too expensive or difficult to acquire.
I have a couple of old decks that I had updated about 4 years ago and have been working through those.
This is one of those decks...
Current decklist.... Basic premise is to get the engine (Glistener Elf+(Psionic Gift OR Hermetic Study) +Intruder Alarm + Silver Myr + Shrieking Drake) out there and to kill them with poison counters. Yes I recognize that this requires a lot of cards for the combo. I'm not too worried about it because it is for fun, none of us have any power cards any longer. And I'll likely be able to win a game or two with it before I switch over to something else.
Update: I swapped out an Island in favor of a second Wordly Tutor to be able to more reliably pull the non-green creatures. I also swapped out the Chromatic Lantern to make room for the Inexorable Tide.
The deck looks fun. But what's the purpose of Glistener Elf? If you're adding infinite Poison counters, infinite regular damage is also lethal. You could have Prodigal Sorcerer instead of Hermetic Study+Glistener Elf and save yourself a lot of difficulty in assembling the combo.
Are you playing with Vintage B/R? You may be allowed only 1 Brainstorm and 1 Ponder, but can't you run 4 Preordain? Or Serum Visions or something. The more cheap card selection you have, the better.
As to your question on the whole purpose of the Glistener Elf it is essentially to kill them with Poison counters. It was always a mechanic that I found to be fun but could never really make work so I figured why not give it another shot. I agree it would be way easier with the Tim. But not nearly as fun.
I actually have been away for some time so I didn't know anything about Preordain or Serum Visions. I am going to test them out a little bit and see how that would all fit. I imagine they could replace some of the cards in the engine as I could draw to them sooner. I'm guessing that we are using Vintage B/R. I just always have used that list because, besides casual, that is the format I care the most about.
Thanks again. I'll let you know how the testing works out.

If your goal is to generate infinite untaps with Intruder Alarm, you could also just use something like Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker instead of Silver Myr+Shrieking Drake (which is harder to assemble and more fragile).
