Wife and I recently got into magic with some friends.
I've been trying to build her a deck and she is very stubborn about it, so I need advice.
She wants an all Female/Angel deck.
Really, the only prerequisite is that she wants attractive women for the artwork of every card. The more angels the better, but really, any female artwork will do.
Also, she doesn't want an overly complicated deck.
She expressed that she already find the game confusing and a lot to keep track of, so she wants a deck that is relatively simple to play. No excessive counters, etc. (honestly, don't let that influence you too hard, as I will work with her to help her understand better)
So can anyone help me with creating a deck list for her so I can start building her a new deck that at least stands a chance of winning a game every now and then?:-)
Most angels are white or at least partially white, so that is going to be the main color if not the color of the deck. Many cheaper creatures in white are represented by females, too, so there should be at least some fitting pieces, for example Knight of Meadowgrain, Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit, Auriok champion, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, or Thalia, Heretic Cathar. The biggest problem I see is with the non-creature cards. While a deck can consist of only creatures and lands, it's almost always better to have some noncreature cards for specific purposes. A white removal card, that is iconic for the color is Pacifism. And while the later art depicts a zombie with flowers, the Onlaught version depicts Akroma, Angel of Wrath. Angelic Purge is another removal option. You may want to look into both of the Innistrad blocks, especially the Avacyn Restored set, because angels are a heavy theme there, and many noncreature cards depict them.
As a start, I would choose a bunch of higher cost Angels for the higher spectrum of the mana curve, and decide on how many creatures in each lower CMC slot you want to have. Go for about 24 creatures total. Once you know, how many creatures you need for CMC 1, 2, and 3, use the gatherer or some other search engine to find cards with females in the illustration to fill those slots.
If you want to branch out into another color, I commend red. In red/white you get many goodies from the Boros guild of the two Ravnica blocks, like Razia, Boros Archangel, Firemane Avenger, or Warleader's Helix (go for the Dragon's Maze version). And of course, red brings another female planeswalker to the table in many variants: Chandra Nalaar.
Mana accel is scarce in those too colors and angels are usually quite expensive manawise. I've found two pieces of mana acceleration, that you couls use though: Mana Prism and Magnifying Glass.
My daughter has been pestering me to build a better "nice" deck for her for a while. This is probably right up her alley.
I'll be marking this.
What about adding a mana dork... Gold Myr? Not female or an angel I guess, the equivalent mana rock would be Marble Diamond but because this is casual, I would go straight for Sol Ring over any other recent mana rock. The more recent artwork for Ring is not quite as "devilish" as the earlier versions.

Some cheaper angels to consider are Restoration Angel, Serra Avenger, Emancipation Angel, Angel of Jubilation, Gisela, the Broken Blade, Seraph of the Sword, etc. Defy Death may be a nice reanimation tool for an angel heavy deck. Descend upon the Sinful gives you a sweeper with an angel motiv to clear the board with. Kor Sanctifiers is a nice to have removal for artifacts and enchantments. Or Solemn Offering.

And of course, there are the female planeswalkers. In white you have Elspeth in three different versions: Elspeth Tirel, Elspeth, Knight-Errant, and Elspeth, Sun's Champion. All of them are very useful.
