Notice the combo of Swarmyard + Hornet Nest. Hornet Nest is usually meant to be a 1-time use thing. But with Swarmyard, Hornet Nest can block something big with Y power, make Y insect tokens, and then you regenerate it so it doesn't die and can block again. This synergy is good enough to run 4 copies of each. If you can get it together, it gives you good defense in the early game.
I'm currently thinking of a deck revolving around Parallel lives, Hornet Queen, Crystal Shard, and Elvish piper.
Modern:
U Merfolk GRW Tooth and Nail W Soul Sisters
Pauper:UG ElvesR BurnWG Bogles
If you want fast, Beacon of Creation is probably the most efficient way to dump Insects onto the field, followed by Ant Queen as a mana sink.
That would work in a monogreen ramp deck:
4 Nature's Lore
4 Rampant Growth
4 Skyshroud Claim
//Insects: 16
4 Hornet Nest
4 Beacon of Creation
4 Ant Queen
3 Hornet Queen
1 Living Hive
2 Parallel Lives
//Good Stuff: 6
3 Overrun
3 Harmonize
//Lands: 24
4 Swarmyard
2 Oran-Rief, the Vastwood
18 Forest
