Purpose of Deck - Turn Manipulate Fate into 1U: Draw 4 cards.


So I'm wondering. Do I drop the land count after I've traded up to 6 or 8 copies of "Draw 4", or do I just let redundant copies of that effect trim lands later on?

My first couple ideas on where this deck could go.
-Treating the exiled critters as one-shot draws. For example: UG - Ramp, Prophet of Kruphix, control spells. Constant pressure with mid-sized flyers backed by counterspells to stop them from dropping big threats.

-Build with reusable exile effects, so that the critters keep coming back. Example: UBG - Deathrite Shaman/Withered Wretch/Planar Void/Delve cards plus removal.

Bojuka Bog and Relic of Progenitus both seem good, and the former could count against the lands and do double duty. The great thing about this deck is it can murder dredge and reanimator.

Bog has me leaning towards black as a secondary over green. This could even go mono-blue, with just a little bit of color in the land base to allow for the Torrents to drop. I think I this point I need to settle on an initial list. No point in just throwing out the what ifs without offering a place to start critiquing. So, initial list!

I think you're running too many creatures to fetch with Manipulate Fate. I'd stick to choosing the best one of the three as a 4-of and another as a 2-of, and run more spells or other good creatures in your colours. The gimmick is cool and interesting, but too many repeating copies of the same idea will make the deck weaker because there are just plain stronger cards out there. Having fewer copies will allow you to really take advantage of the card advantage you create, as opposed to just getting more copies of what you already have in hand.

I think I might go with 4 Griffin and 2 Torrent Elemental, or 3 and 3, and cut Foresight altogether.

I was thinking Brainstorm would help with the hand/exile redundancy issue, but I think you're right.

I'll pull out at least 1 each of Scourge and Elemental. I suppose Force of Will can help with copies in the hand as well, maybe a couple of those to replace the critters?

You could take it even further and run juicy 1-ofs like Misdirection, topping it off with stuff like Mystical Tutor. Maybe a couple Snapbacks would be interesting.

I've been interested in this deck for a while. I often thought cards like Despoiler of Souls and Scrapheap Scrounger might work well with Misthollow Griffin and friends. Maybe Buried Alive can get a Despoiler and 2 Griffins to start you off.

Instead of weakening your draws with the misdirection, run it on sideboard, and use cunning wish to grab it if necessary. With a decent package setup, you can run all sorts of free situational answers on the wish board and use cunning wishes as needed.

Neat! I had considered things like Scavenging Ooze and Deathrite Shaman, but had not considered directly filling the yard with these critters.
