I wanted to build a wolf deck so I went out to my local Magic store and bought these cards. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. It plays really well and it's a lot of fun. The only thing is that it's a budget deck. I didn't want to spend a lot of money so this is what I got. I'd like to know what kinds of cards I can add to improve this deck over time when I get the money to do so. Thanks in advance!
So, the theme of the deck was to have Wolf shepherds or Guys that watch over wolves, but the rest of the creatures have to be wolves. There cannot be werewolves or anything like that. Also, the deck has to be Mono-Green. Those are my only "rules" about the deck.
In order to fulfill the roles of "Shepherds" I chose Master of the Wild Hunt and Wolf-Skull Shaman. I only chose these guys because they have something to do with wolves and they are not werewolves or transform into werewolves. ALL of the other creatures MUST be wolves* only.
*Ok, I will accept suggestions for Wolf Warriors, but I'd rather not have them and also I'd rather not include Elemental creatures such as Wolfbriar Elemental
I think you have picked a couple cool cards that aren't really at home in this deck.
Wolf-Skull Shaman will rarely trigger in this build. Remove it for a different critter, maybe something to fill the 3 mana slot such as Wolfir Avenger, Witchstalker or Lone Wolf? Parallel Lives only supports 2 cards since the Wolf-Skulls are basically bears, I'd cut it until you can rebuild the deck with a stronger focus on token generation.
Aside from that, 10 total instant/flash spells to pump creatures may be a little much here.
I love my wolf deck. It is simple, cheap, and a lot of fun to play.
My deck is red and green but only because of Immerwolf. I only use him for his +1/+1 and I have no werewolves. Two cards I also like in mine are Wandering Wolf and Raised by Wolves. If token creation is a direction you were thinking I also use Predator's Howl which works great when one of your Young Wolf dies the first time. Howlgeist is spendy mana wise but I like him also.

I am still a novice really and a kitchen table player with a budget always in mind. Deck building is almost my favorite part.
For enchantment and artifact removal my go to card is Naturalize. I use it a lot because I own so many and it is cheap if you need to buy it. For creature removal you can go with Plummet but that will obviously only help against creatures with flying. If Naturalize is an idea you like and you are going the token route then I suggest using Sundering Growth instead for the populate. For better creature removal you will want to splash a little black or red in your deck. For red an option is Pure//Simple but again it can be a limited use (honestly I wouldn't use that card). I personally prefer splashing black for something like Putrefy, Golgari Charm, or a nice go to but no green involved Murder. Their are other options aswell but personally I am a budget player and for me these would be my best options.

Fliptopbox86, Thanks again! I went out and bought a bunch more cards. I'm still unsure of how to make the best use of cards for my wolf deck.
1.) I know that I want a few "Wolf type" shamans or humans to be sort of the leaders. Even if they don't lead in the sense that they are the strongest or most powerful cards, I have them "lead" to fit the theme of the deck.
2.) The way to win with my deck is loading up on Wolf tokens or wolf creatures and pummeling my opponent. This seems to be working out really well.
For example, yesterday I had a Master of the Wild Hunt out on the battlefield and I played two Raised by Wolves. At the time, I had eight 2/2 Wolf tokens on the battlefield. I used the enchantment on my Master of the Wild Hunt and as a result, turned him into a 22/22 creature! I then attacked my opponent for 38 points with him and all of my wolf tokens!
So, as far as having wolves and wolf tokens onto the battlefield - This is no problem. I am more wondering, what other kinds of cards I can use to help this deck. Instants like Overrun, Might of Oaks, and Titanic Growth are super fun, but are they necessary? I mean with so many wolves and tokens, I'm usually not hurting for strength.
Should I add more fetch lands? Discard? I'm a little stuck here. I'll post my deck build below and include all of the other cards I bought to show you what I'm working with. Thanks!
One option I'm thinking of playing (as far as creatures go) is adding three more Master of the Wild Hunt and two more Wolf-Skull Shaman or just adding the three Master of the Wild Hunt for a total of four.
Do your shamans need to be human? This new list has quite a bit of mid-game cards which could benefit from a bit of early-game ramp. You can take advantage of Sakura-Tribe Elder for land ramp, Kinship triggers and set up Morbid without relying on your opponent.
I would like them to be human, yes. It not totally necessary, but I do like the Sakura-Tribe Elder. It looks pretty cool and artwork is important to me. What do you mean by Kinship Triggers and set up Morbid?
The Elder is a Shaman, and will cause Wolf-Skull Shaman to make a wolf token whenever you reveal an Elder with the Kinship trigger.
You can sacrifice the Elder at any time, so you don't need to enter combat or wait for an opponent's kill spell to get the most out of Predator's Howl. So a couple scenarios when you an STE in play and four lands untapped...
- End of your opponent's turn, sacrifice the Elder to find a land, then play Predator's Howl for 3 wolves ready to attack.
- Your opponent attacks into your Elder, expecting you to block and sacrifice the 1/1. You sacrifice it before blocking, then generate 3 wolves to block with.
It's been awhile since I've posted in this thread, but I've got a great wolf deck going and I'd love to hear opinions on making it as best as it can be. I really want to keep this mono-green. However, I'm open to the idea of splashing a little black to play cards like Golgari Charm. Again though, I'd love to keep this mono-green so keep that in mind. What can I do to make this the best it can be? One idea I had was to add Aether Vial to the deck. How's that sound? And would I need an entire playset? Also considering Descendants' Path
Hi kamakazi! Thanks for the reply. Yes, I don't know why I overlooked Lone Wolf. I've definitely contemplated it before. Which cards should I drop top include him? Any other ideas? Thanks again!
There's a card called Howling Wolf that can fetch itself, useful for thinning your deck.
There are cards like Bifurcate and Pack Hunt that can search for more wolves- imagine either targeting the Silverfur Partisan. Feed the Pack with the Cagebreakers could provide some interesting combinations- you just need somethings to sacrifice.
That said, you're strategy is all over the place. I can see a deck built around Lone Wolf, Nyxborn Wolf and Wolfir Silverheart. a 9/7 dodging through enemy line's is something to fear.
If you're running a Wolf token/Parallel Lives strategy, definitely look at some Populate cards, like Growing Ranks.

I know what you mean. My strategy is definitely all over the place. The reason that this hasn't been a problem is that the casual group that I play with don't really seem to be a threat. Yes, I occasionally lose games, but so does everybody else. Most of the time my wolves are so powerful, nothing is a problem. And if I draw a Howl of the Night Pack on opening hand - forget about it. I pretty much know I'm going to win. This goes for drawing it early on as well.
Another reason, which is not a good one, is that I like all of my wolves! LOL I mean seriously, their all so cool, that I didn't want to get rid of any of them. Hence, why I have so many 2 ofs
All that being said. I do want this deck to be absolutely brutal and the best it can be. I know that can be tricky because there are many paths to go. How does this look?

With Silverfur Partisan you can make a lot of wolf tokens. So far your deck doesn't have many ways to trigger it. But if you use spells like Nature's Way or Rabid Bite or Pit Fight as your removal, then it will also trigger Silverfur to make a wolf token! But those spells are worse than Moonlight Hunt in a wolf deck, so it may not be worth running them.
Master of the Wild Hunt is really good. Can you get any more copies?
I don't like Lone Wolf post-2002. It used to be really good, but nowadays if a 2/2 is blocked, it's dying right away. So you can only use the ability once. If you use the abililty, you're just doing 2 damage to the opponent for 3 mana and 1 card spent (a 3-mana Shock). There are some cool things you can do with Lone Wolf and buffs, but I think your deck had better wolves before. Witchstalker and Spirit of the Hunt both give you more value for 3 mana.
Would a cryptolith rite into a wolfbriar elemental be out of the question? Also the metallurgic mimic or w/e his name is from kaladesh would be funny. Name wolf with your robot and now you have a wolf robot that pumps other wolves.

It deals damage as though it were not blocked but it receives damage as though it were blocked.
2/2 Lone Wolf vs 2/2 Grizzly Bears. Wolf deals 2 damage to opponent as though it was not blocked. Bears deals 2 damage to Wolf. Wolf dies and Bears live. (realistically you would just deal 2 damage to the Bears so they would trade)
Yeah, I'm looking to get more Master of the Wild Hunt. Ideally, I'd like to run 4 of them. You know what's funny though? All this time, I've only used him to pump out a wolf each upkeep. I've never used his tapping ability. I might be misunderstanding it, but I have always been afraid to use that ability for fear of losing a wolf. I guess that really doesn't matter though because I get a new wolf during my next up keep. In a way, it's kind of like a never ending Moonlight Hunt.

One area you're going to be lacking is draw- when you run out of cards in hand, you'll be top decking. Symbiotic Deployment, Collective Unconscious, or Greater Good would help keep your hand full of cards.
Alternatively, there's the classic Aluren/Recycle combo; add in Cloudstone Curio you can do some crazy things.
