Holy crap, Forgetful Fish looks like so much fun! What a truly unique take on a Magic variant. I love it. I'm just here to compliment you, not necessarily to add anything. That's such an awesome idea...I wonder what other great single-deck variants could be made like this?
My only criticism might be that there's an awful lot of rules (I mean in all three, not just Forgetful Fish) that could be confusing and/or might turn people off. I get that these are basically new games, but if people can't just sit around and play regular magic with a few easy to remember changes, they aren't likely to try them.
Thanks for the compliment. The basic rules for Forgetful Fish are really not that much. They pretty much fit all on one page and most of those are just short lines that clear up the changes in game terms when playing out of the same library (to make clear who the "owner" of a card is and the like). Basically it is summed up by saying players share a singular library and graveyard, and players get a free mulligan if they din't have at least two lands in their opening hand. The mulligan rule is necessary so that both players can play the 2 CMC key cards. The rules sheet mentions that life totals can be tracked with five counters or a d6, but that is not really a rule, just a bonus side effect of the only damage dealer dealt in increments of four. I use two blue six-siders to track life totals when I play, but you could track it in the normal ways if you choose. It is not really a rule. The last line in the basic rules are also not a rule, but a warning that the stack can get complex. When you introduce the deck to a new player, the rules are very easily covered in a sentence or two.
I encourage you to build or proxy FF and give it a try. You'll really enjoy it.
I built forgetful fish and trippin. They are both a pile of fun. I would be interested in whatever other game designs you have. (Rock paper scissors wasn't really my thing)
