So I pulled 3 of these in my recent pulls and I want to use them. I know there's a card that will let you deal damage back to your opponent but for the life of me I can't remember it. Anyone have an idea how to take advantage of Goldnight Castigator's effect?
The Castigator is basically a 4/5 (since 5 damage kills it) flying hasty creature for 4 mana with the drawback, that everything that hurts you will hurt you twice as much. You could just run it as such in a red beatdown/burn deck.
You could try to counteract the drawbacks, like with Gisela, Blade of Goldnight or damage prevention effects, but that 7 mana angel pairs not that well with the much more aggressive Castigator.
The best approach is probably to try and abuse the Castigator's very high toughness:
- Sacrifice it for Feed the Pack to get a large pack of wolves,
- protect it with Heal the Scars or Sheltering Word,
- get rid of the damage doubling effect before it hurts you and gain quite a lot of life instead with Miren, the Moaning Well,
- exploit it with Profaner of the Dead to bounce the opponent's entire board
- make Scourge of Skola Vale big with a single sacrifice
You could use Arcbond for a very devastating mass burn effect. If the Castigator doesn't die from the damage, though, this will hurt you a lot!
I really like the profaner angle. It seems really nasty..... But other than that combo I would see the deck as a one trick pony i.e. defense into Profaner and then just swing for game with piddly creatures
Deflecting Palm may be what you are thinking of. If we had some P/T switching effects, it could be nasty. It's a great finisher, though, 4 power on a hasty, evasive body, for 4 is good enough for atleast a 1-of for me.
A red and green Assault Formation deck with the Castigator could be neat. Swinging for 9 in the air on turn 4 will end games quickly.
Maybe in a red green defender shell with Vent Sentinel, Aether Membrane, Overgrown Battlement, Wall of Blossoms, Tinder Wall, Tree of Redemption etc. The walls give you blockers to protect against the Castigator's side effect, and become deadly with Assault Formation on the field.
There's also Spellskite in a world where money is no object. It eats up removal and burn that would be aimed at you or the Castigator, and becomes a 4/4 for 2 with Assault Formation.
If I had a ton of cash laying round I would definitely get spellskite... alas I do not. However, this cars is a lot less seemingly worthess than I had imagined.
So I was thinking a swing and About Face would be brilliant here
Yep, that's pretty classic. And why not double strike it for the win? Armed would work for 20 damage and Wrecking Ogre would work for 24. Or you can get the About Faces that stick around (that dwarf and that spirit, neither I can spell) and do each turn.
Well, the main colors of this deck are going to be R/U. I have toyed with adding a 3rd color such as black to reanimate and cycle the Castigator/Profaner combo deflecting palm is also nice though so idk if I wanna go B/U/R or U/R/W

Protect it with a flagbearer? Protect yourself with fog-effects?
These are the decks that I have constructed, and are ready to play:
01. Ankh Sligh to be exact.
