This is my very first post. Hello fellow Wizards, I need your help and wisdom. So I have an Azorius merfolk deck and vampires ect. That are all pretty good control decks, but they get wreaked by a dash deck because he gets these 3 or even four power creatures constantly attacking me and he has these two enchantments that whenever he casts a creature, it deals 1 damage to each opponent. So I want to buy cards (not too expensive) that will help me against that bull crap. My favorite decks are Dimir, and I like a fast acting deck but I want it to still be a control deck. So I need help making a good Dimir deck (I like the mill and discard, and being able to play spells form my apponents library like "Nightveil Specter") that can hold it's own easily if not fairly against these dang dash decks. Thank you!
Also , I would love to add Erayo Soratami Ascendent in it as well, if possible. But first help with the issue at hand and getting the cool strategies I listed above in it.
Ps: Card recommendations don't have to be from recent sets , you can recommend any Dimir cards. But I do want a Dimir deck that's currently legal in all tournaments too. So help me out in any way. I do like esper decks as well and Orzhov and Azoriu, but I'd prefer Dimir related cards and possible esper...
Warped Devotion will shut it down. So will Frozen Æther. Running Ostracize or Despise isn't a bad idea either. Really the best thing you can do is make it hard for him not to put something down to block. Maybe throw a Dimir Cutpurse in your deck so he's forced to play things in a non-dashy way.
Cards like Soul Warden would nullify his enter the battlefield pinging, but cards like Blind Obedience sound like a much more effective way to hate the strategy out. Sticking to the blue and black though, discard strategies make a lot more sense such as Despise. Blue actually offers a lot of solid, quick, shut-down to the strategy in the form of Essence Scatter, Remove Soul, False Summoning, also Memory Lapse.
Assuming they tap out for the dash cost, cards like Mana Leak, Syncopate, and Condescend really shine. Dash Hopes is another fun, soft counter, that could be effective in dealing with repetitive casting. Desertion is a little more late game, but could be very effective.
Sacrifice spells can be effective too, but obviously only at instant speed, such as Diabolic Edict or Devour Flesh. Another way to beat the strategy would be to buy all snow-covered lands. Whenever your opponent casts a dash spell and/or attacks with a creature that has dash, start quietly singing the "Dashing Through the Snow" part of the song "Jingle Bells" until they rage quit, or just no longer want to play the deck. This is obviously the least effective method, but could be hilarious.
