So just for fun i like to constrict myself to certain blocks and build crazy tribes or themes. This time around im sticking to theros and build a type of Greek soldier human deck with a(Hoplite)theme to it. With this type of deck im sticking within theros, born of the gods and journey to nyx just to challenge myself in a way to build within the borders of the limited. Now a while back i scored a nice deal on play sets of the 4 each common and uncommon cards of all 3 sets of the block so basically what im running is all common and uncommon with the exception of Nykthos, Shrine of Nyx. So far i have this as a deck scheme.
So far i've play tested it in action i played it in 3 player FFA we play basic kitchen table usually nothing to heavy not a lot of people play with enchantments so i dont worry to much on the enchantment destruction but the issue i noticed most was i had a hard time fighting against flyers and the drop speed of my deck was pretty damn good but the counter production/pump seemed really slow my creatures stayed wienie status most of the time 2/2 highest was 4/4 but not enough to push through in a defense. Does anyone have any thoughts on cards from the block that would work well here?
I think you are off to a good start, but you can easily make it a lot better using just Theros block commons and uncommons only - cards you already own! A good place to look for inspiration is the card choices used in the broken RW Heroic Limited decks. This was the strongest deck archetype in Limited, frustrating pro players worldwide, and you are effectively trying to run a similar style of RW Heroic weenie aggro deck, so I will make some suggestions from those decks.
1) Favored Hoplite. Seems like a natural choice for a "hoplite" deck. It grows pretty easily and pushes through blockers well.
2) Satyr Hoplite. Same idea. This and Favored Hoplite should be 4 copies each. They are great creatures to play on turn 1 and they will solve your problem of not being able to get bigger than 2/2s. They just grow on their own so easily!
3) Ordeal of Purphoros. This is better than Ordeal of Heliod in an aggressive deck. The 3 damage can kill another creature (like a potential blocker), which is pretty amazing. Either Ordeal is really good to put on Favored or Satyr Hoplite on turn 2. You will be able to attack with a 3/3 or 3/4 on turn 2, already bigger than your creatures are getting right now!
4) Loyal Pegasus is better than it looks. You will have a lot of small creatures attacking regularly, so the restriction is not a problem. You just get a 2/1 flyer for one mana!
5) Coordinated Assault and Dauntless Onslaught are both surprise combat tricks that help you win in battle. Also, each targets TWO creatures so they really help you trigger Heroic efficiently for little mana. Ajani's Presence is another good one.
6) Arena Athlete can be good if you have a lot of ways to trigger Heroic but are worried about blockers. Other heroic creatures to consider are Wingsteed Rider or Akroan Skyguard. These are all great attackers.
7) Bestow is pretty strong. Everflame Eidolon is more cheap Bestow that gives you more Dragon Mantle-type cards and help triggers Heroic. Hopeful Eidolon is semi-cheap Bestow (everything else is more), and helps pad your life total while you attack with a big Heroic guy.
Cards I would cut are:
-all 6 equipment (They were bad even in Limited... They just made equipment too expensive for its effect in this block to avoid warping Limited, but the result is that these cards are basically unplayable and just a waste of mana. Also, equipment has no synergy with Heroic. If you really need to have some of them for flavor, cut down to 1-2 equipment total.)
-Messenger's Speed. Also not playable in Limited. It triggers Heroic but it just doesn't do enough to warrant wasting a card. You're better off casting a cantrip card like a 4th Dragon Mantle, because at least that replaces itself. Or a pump spell like Titan's Strength, which has scry, triggers Heroic at instant speed and can help one of your creatures kill a dangerous blocker.
-Guardians of Meletis. If you play this deck right, you should not need to block often. You can offset damage taken simply by gaining life from Ordeal of Heliod or Hopeful Eidolon. This deck should not need a big colorless wall.
-Blinding Flare. Honestly, not that great. Just use Arena Athlete to disable blockers or win with flyers.
-Thunderous Might. This might be alright in other decks (e.g. with Two-Headed Cerberus), but you don't really have much red devotion so this kind of card isn't going to offer much value. You have way more white devotion so far.
Thank you for the tips! love the feed back i did some edits based on your suggestions going to test them in my play group later tonight here is what i ended with took out some of the useless cards and side boarded a few others for situation fights .
