yeah, that's a good point. not exactly ramp, but more of an insurance (and even then, not absolutely) that we hit our land drops, while enabling our GY for recursion (if we use any, like stitch together, or exhume, which is safe because we'll have removal). love the addition of shriekmaws btw.

i think we are using commune/mulch/salvage as a way to fill our yard for recursion. so it probably fits better than a flat tutor here. now that I know about commune, i wish I could swap out my 4 grisly with the commune.

There is still a chance with grisly on the chopping block. I am all for any tutors deemed feasible for the deck! I am just excited to see good discussion on this deck and GMaD as involved as it has been.

We don't want to fill our graveyard too much, though, or Chant will be way too random. Cards like Buried Alive are excellent choices, though.

I just read what Hermit does, so I just realized that we have 9 cards that do very similar things right now. Either Druid, Mulch or Salvage need to go, in my opinion.

I think the deck just needs some straight up reanimate or dread return to make sure you can get a fatty or use that e-witness you dumped into the yard. Also Hermit Druid is amazing, and really easy to build around.

One of the reasons I only added 2 mulch is that it is sorcery, and it's redundant, but it gets ALL the lands you reveal, so it fills the graveyard with non-land cards which is a relevant thing. Also Hermit Druid tends to not live very long. If you get to activate him once or twice, you should be winning, but don't expect it to happen much.

I'm going to go ahead and vote against 1 Saffi, unless we're doing weird combo shenanigans with it I don't see it being that useful. But I'm going to add some tutors to help us find it in case we do want to do some shenanigans. Also if we're going to splash white here, Academy Rector might be a better fit.

Adding 2 Fauna Shaman. It filters creatures for us allowing us to discard fatties to reanimate and get utility creatures that we can hard cast at the same time.

Also voting against all Relic of Progenitus. I understand the argument to keep it, but the card Loaming Shaman does the graveyard filter thing better, and we can now tutor for it.

Why add a creature with a cheat-in mechanic and no ETB effect in a deck that wants to reanimate it anyway?

We are at 73 cards. Time to trim some fat so we can add some better cards, especially since we know where this deck is going now. Fill grave, Recur.
Fill grave(lotleth troll,buried alive, commune with the gods, grisly salvage, darkblast)
Recur(beacon of unrest, stitch together, exhume, reanimate)

we have eternal witness, i wish we had some removal spells we could bring back to our hand with it. (go for the throat, murder, beast within).

we lack draw (harmonize, sign in blood)


voting to remove all copies of demon of deaths gate. it has no ETB and we have the ramp to not need to pay it's alternative cost

adding 1 copy (we can have fun and do one ofs)overseer of the damned. 4 turn clock, evasion, and kills a creature ETB. it also creates 2/2 tokens if we can kill more of their creatures. most likely, this will come into play with a 2/2 token.

voting out saffi, looks like we've moved away from white sadly. i love me some abzan. but it has to go this time. removed

voting out 1 sheoldred, legendary and 1 ofs for utility are more fun

voting out 1 terastodon to get 1 ofs. making room for other, more interesting cards.

voting out 3 wurm coil engine. 1 ofs for more utility. plus this guy can recur, so 1 acts as more usually.

voting out relic. i don't think we want to reshuffle grave into deck. i'd rather keep everything in there and have targets at all times.

voting out mulch because I'd rather see commune with the gods. mulch throws away chant. grisly even gives us the chance to grab any of our cheap creatures if we need a blocker or some utility. mulch doesn't cut it here i think.

I would like to see beacon of unrest make its way into this deck before it's over. the fact that it reshuffles itself is beautiful for this deck. I'd rather see 4 of these than most things. works so well with buried alive. I'll add this tomorrow if it makes it that far.

I would like to see Lotleth Troll pitches fatties to grave from hand for better board position early on, helping us fill the yard for recursion.

voting out 2 heart beat of spring. it is symmetrical advantage, and is only good for us if we have cards in hand to cast. we have no draw engine, and we're purposely putting our creatures in the grave. we probably don't need 4 of these helping our opponent more than us.

if we were using more removal, we wouldn't need much ramp. removal = stall until we hit our land drops

Gotta say I don't agree with cutting Demon of Death's Gate. It may look Vanilla given that it doesn't have a fancy ETB trigger, but a 9/9 Flying trample ENDS GAMES and is a solid win condition any way you put it down. I'm going to vote to keep it.

I do agree with removing heartbeat of spring though, and will vote against all copies. It doesn't seem like we need it right now.

It seems we have stalled on where to go now. I would love to vote and cut to make some room so we don't go to cutting too quickly, but I have already voted for the cards I would drop to make a difference. And the deck still feels unfinished for the adding phase!

I'm just going to add some fetch lands, they are good with Deathrite and with Hermit Druid (You want non-basics to fill up the yard more) Adding 4 Verdant Catacombs.

since salvage got dropped, and I don't like mulch as much as commune with the gods, i'm going to add 4 commune with the gods. this results with our chant or blockers/ramp creatures.

I'm going to vote to remove all Demon of Death's Gate. It's a really low-impact fatty, and I'd much prefer seeing another one in its place. I'll also vote to remove all the Mulch.

I'm going to vote to keep the Heartbeat of Spring. It's basically the only solid ramp we have at this time, and we have a 6-mana enchantments and tons of fatties to play, so it's extremely relevant in our deck, and will most likely benefit us more than the opponent (especially with the great ETB abilities that many of the have).

Voting out Relic and Mulch. We have better cards for both effects now. Gone.
I would like to raise loaming shaman to 3 because we really need to draw it and not rely on recursion to get one.

I'll get behind an extra Loaming Shaman. Those will be our main way to reduce our graveyard to what we actually want to bring back.

You know what i like here? Either Killing Wave or Gaze of Granite. With heartbeat, either card can really clear a board after dropping the bridge. The gaze seems superior as it removes Heartbeat and keeps our opponent from just dropping their hand afterward.

Aw, I would have liked to see a bit more work done before the cutting phase, but oh well. Very interesting and original sweeper, though! I like it!

I'm going to vote out all copies of Buried Alive. Although I really like the card, 3 mana is a lot to pay and Fauna Shaman seems like it will do a better job.

I'm going to vote out 1 Deathrite Shaman, 1 Hermit Druid, 1 Eternal Witness and 1 land for trimming purposes. I'll also add my vote to remove 1 Sheoldred, as Legendary with a random ability like Chant could be bad news.

I will also vote out buried alive. It's a bit too much durdle for this. Third vote, gone.

I'll vote to remove 2 Wurmcoil Engines, to bring it down to par with the other fatties.

I'm going to change my vote on Eternal Witness to remove all copies. At this point, we'd probably much rather reanimate something else every turn rather than use her to put something back into our hand.

I'm also voting to remove all Shriekmaws. Although they're really good, most of our fatties come with removal upon entering as well, so he's a bit underwhelming as a creature. His only saving grace is that you can play him for just two mana. I think it's worth cutting regardless.

Voting down deathrite shaman by 1. It's a great card, but I'm a fan of 3 ofs when it comes to cards that require other things to work. (not including combo cards)
