So I played Magic back when Ice Age was a fairly new set. I remember things like banding and sacrificing tokens to Ashnod's Altar to create a 100 damage Fireball. Needless to say, the game has changed.
Knowing that, I'm trying to get back into it. My favorite color is Black, but I picked up a blue deck and along with some of the other cards I managed to pull together, I put together this blue/white deck. Now I would prefer it to be a control deck, obviously I don't have many cards and I have no clue what is available out there now. I had some additional card destruction in 3 Dust to Dusts, but they were removed for something else along the way.
Basically, I'd like to know what cards I should try getting and what will help with the control portion of the deck. The soldiers and all white/artifact creature mix is moreso due to lack of cards than preference of play. Overall, I'd like it to be a control deck, so any help in getting me to that point would be great.
If your looking for some cheap but powerful white creatures to throw equipment on, then mirran crusader and serra avenger fit the bill nicely, as the are powerful enough on their own but get ridiculous with equipment on them. squadron hawk is nice as a 1/1 flyer that basically draws you 3 cards, and can still do some damage with equipments as well. Mother of runes is just a good friggin card.
as for good equipment, bonesplitter is cheap and affordable and still packs a punch. you already have loxodon warhammmer and fireshriecker, but 1 more of each may also help.
As for counterspells and removal, counterspell is still the same old goodness as it was back in the old days. force of will is nice, but at $80 a pop most people won't touch these. swords to plowshares is still one of the best removal spells in the game, and a great card to own in general. Oblivion ring is nice as a way to get rid of anything you need it too. judge's familiar is not bad as both a little beater and slows down your opponent from plays spells for turn. (most people will see it and wait a turn so you can't counter it)
It's a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.
