Hey folks, I wanted to make use of the couple of Tezzeret the Seeker copies I had, so I built a mono-blue artifact deck. It was tough to get down to the right numbers of cards to play. I still feel I haven't found the right balance, so I come to the forums for assistance.
Foremost on my mind is card quality. Two builds ago I had four Brainstorms but opted to remove them in favor of more artifact cards. It bother's me that Crystal Ball is the only form of library manipulation I've got. When I play Blue I've become accustomed to fixing my draw so I get exactly what I want.
Any input you folks can give is greatly appreciated. I'm also looking for ideas on sideboard. Not sure what to throw in just yet.
I built a deck around Tezz once, with White-Blue-Black (Esper). And scope creep came into it, and I ended up breaking the deck into 3 decks. Mono Blue artifact control, White-Blue Artifact agro, and Blue-Black Artifact Infect.
What particular direction are you really hoping for? With Mono-Blue, I would recommend the control aspect, in which case you should look for more counters and permission spells, as well as some bounce effects. With artifacts that have an ETB effect, you can use them on your own as well. I also use Master Transmuter to cheat more expensive artifacts into play, like Memnarch, Mycosynth Lattice or Darksteel Forge.
Again, really depends on what direction you are wanting to go with the deck.

Black, Hex Parasite is primarily to take out Planesewalkers. As for the Elixir of Immortality, it's there for just-in-case life gain (plus the added benefit of emptying my graveyard. I didn't think a singleton copy of each would mess up the flow of my deck much, especially since Tezz can search for them later in the game when I'm likely to need them most.
Jace, I think I'm going to go more towards the control route. But what could I cut? I guess the Energy Chambers could come out, right? In favor of more counters perhaps?
I'm still out on card draw. Perhaps I could dump that Elixer singleton for a Deep Analysis. It's no Thoughtcast, but at least I could use it twice while only sacrificing one card spot in my deck.
And what do you guys think about sideboard? Any recommendations?
Hey there! Glad to see love for one of my fav planeswalkers. I used to run a pretty successful deck with him and have some ideas that I think will help.
The key to a good Tezzeret deck is a tool box - a lot of 1-of cards that allow you to use Tez's -X ability effectively. Every singleton makes your deck stronger, which means you want to take out a lot of your 'filler' spells (4 Gitaxian Probe, 3 AEther Bomb, 2 Echoing Truth, Crystal Ball, Foil)
Example Toolbox Cards: Ensnaring Bridge - A must have, one included in many Tezzeret tournament decks. Pithing Needle - An extremely versatile card. Witchbane Orb - Expensive mana wise, but useful. Contagion Clasp - For the price of 2 loyalty counters you can up Tez's loyalty by 3 a turn (Proliferate, Untap with Tezz, Proliferate again) Oblivion Stone / Nevinyrral's Disk - Reset the board. Vedalken Shackles - Extremely expensive ($$$) card, but it's worth it if you can pick up one.
I agree with DaCMD on Darksteel Citadel - that helps you take advantage of Tez's +1 and ultimate better. Overall, I'd say up your land count to at least 23, maybe 24 - You want to be able to cast Tezzeret turn 4 or 5 and the only way you'll do that consistently is with that many lands. If you can find a Sol Ring, you can even get a Turn 3 Tezzie. Likewise, Mana Vault allows for a Turn 2 Tezzie and you can even untap it with him
Trinket Mage is a great card, able to tutor for an artifact land, an AEther Spellbomb, Everflowing Chalice, Pithing Needle, Sol Ring, whatever you need
