Back in the time when Ravnica came out, the simic was one of my favorite guild, G/U being one of my favorite color combination. So i built a simic graft deck. It wasn't bad, but wasn't that great either. I eventually dismantled it.
No so long ago, with the proliferate mechanic coming out, i decided to give this deck a second chance. I added black for removal but it didn't work well.
Today, Animar, soul of the elements was previewed so i decided to add red. I tested it today in multiplayer and it did quite well, even without Animar. So here it is:
Ashling the pilgrim is there until I get my hands on Animar
Apocalypse hydra can be huge or can be a dead draw. Will get better with Animar. It is one of the cards that could be replaced.
Ion storm is great. It's removal or direct damage to the dome. I should always have plenty of counters to feed it.
Taurean mauler and forgotten ancient grow as my opponents cast spells. Especially good in multiplayer. Ancient's ability to transfer counters is awesome. In a game today, I transfered a counter to thrummingbird and it kept growing with proliferate. It was nice since the was a moat and island of wak-wak in play.
I prefer contagion engine to clasp. Double proliferate is excellent. It also serves as a slower sweeper.
Cytoplast root-kin is self explanatory.
There is interactions with vinelasher kudzu + fetchlands and vinelasher kudzu + fertilid. Fertilid can help fix my mana (my mana base is fragile but i'm on a budget) or get those extra lands for an apocalypse hydra at 5.
So any toughts? Should i keep apocalypse hydra or is there something better?
for decks like these i always recommend the usual suspects doubling season for win more mirrorweave buff and board wipe at the same time fungal behemoth sledgehammer of death (hilarious to mirrorweave)
you might also benefit from fate transfer for ashling

Doubling season is a good suggestion but is too expensive (i'm on a budget).
I tried mirrorweave before but it didn't work that well. I often didn't have the UU to pay its cost. I would have to invest in my manabase if i wanted to play it and i'm on a budget. Also, my opponents often have creatures that have +1/+1 counters on them as well... That's why i opted for ion storm for removal and contagion engine as a sweeper.
Fungal behemoth was also in the original decklist but was cut because he's a dead draw if i don't have any other creatures (post sweeper for instance).
Ashling is going to be cut soon. Also, i prefer forgotten ancient as a way to move counters.
