So my missus has an old Soul Sisters deck she's been running for quite a while .... running well enough, I should add.
She's asked me to change it up and make it more interesting to play. (We typically play FFA with mostly 4+ players)
Option #1 is splashing for either green or black, but then I'm concerned that this would kill Emeria off, open the deck up to mana-screw forcing me to run slots for stuff like Steve. Cards like Essence Warden, Aura Shards, Karlov of the Ghost Council, Oracle of Nectars & Cliffhaven Vampire have me thinking. Black draw is the main reason I'm considering a splash FWIW.
Option #2 is a mono-white build with some slots dedicated to Stoneforge Mystic and a few choice equipment with Squadron Hawks. This option together with creatures that grow in size like Pridemate & Regent looks powerful in theory, but also turns on Emeria/Mistveil to help post-wipe.
Which option is stronger? I like the idea of a splash, but looking at the cards white has to offer, I'm not sure we even need other colours unless we're chasing a combo-finisher.
Green might not add too much to what white already does. A bit of ramp, some beaters.
Black could add card draw and destruction. There are a lot of two color land options so mana fixing’s not a real problem unless your games are high on tempo.

In magic there's Harry Dresden, Fizban, Sethra Lavode, Dorotea Senjak and me...
My meta: 3 or 4 player free for all, anything goes but boring games or broken decks cause a vote to end that game.
Green can be splashed for Tendershoot Dryad, Deranged Hermit, Hornet Queen, etc. These are IMO better then cards that simply heal you like kitchen finks, and will gain you a lot of life off of a soul sister. Dryad is essentially "kill now or lose" and Hornet Queen is amazing.

Interesting.
I did consider Suture Priest...
One of the things my wife likes about Soul Sisters generally, is that people usually leave you alone. Going on my own experience that Zulaport & Suture Priest usually paint a target on you, I wonder what my missus thinks about this?
P.S. I like it. Cheers!
Return to the Ranks looks like a good one to get in regardless of splash or not.
Black is the best splash for shoring up weaknesses to the deck I think but it's not necessary unless you want to take the deck in a different direction.
Vizkopa Guildmage flat out wins games if left unchecked in black versions of the deck. I've used the card to devastating effect in both extort and soul sister decks.
Recursion is important, thanks whomever suggest return to the ranks forgot about that card

Yeah, the damage triggers will paint a target on your head; then again they are there to punish opponents for using mass removal. This version was built with the assumption that people will start gunning for you as soon as Uncle Karl hits the table. He gets HUGE fast!
WB is one of my favorite combinations, and Karlov is a great way to turn Soul Sisters from a passive deck to an active one; as others have said, he gets huge, fast. And in FFA, Sun Droplet can be funny for discouraging small attacks when it will just give you multiple life gain triggers.
Hmmm... yeah both good options.
Given I'll be running Well of Lost Dreams & not running Ascendant, I'm not sure Ranger is worth it for the build I have in mind.
LOL. Uncle Karl. I happen to know a Karl - we call him wookie, on account of the way he speaks (lets just say elocution isn't strong with this one)
Thanks for all the advice.
I think BW is the better way to take the deck from here.
Uncle Karl, Pridemate & Regent together with lifegain options gives the deck some big creature threats. Add in some black leeching options listed here in this thread and the deck looks like it has multiple ways to beat face and win despite Ensnaring Bridge-type perms aswell.
Cheers.

The old deck ran the typical mono-W core;
Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant, Ajani's Pridemate (with Mjolnir), Emeria, the sky ruin with Well of Lost Dreams for draw. Angelic Accord & Phyrexian Processor for the win. Other cards are Kitchen Finks, Rhox Faithmender and singletons like Cenn's Enlistment, Divinity of Pride etc.
It's been a while since she (or I) have updated this one.
Two new cards we don't have that I want to include are Crested Sunmare & Sunscorch Regent, altho I might wait for Sunmare to rotate.
I'm considering Aetherflux Reservoir, Authority of the Consuls & Benevolent Offering too.
(FWIW, we don't allow "I win" cards like Felidar Sovereign)
Two options come to mind.

CG-Post
4 Skullclamp
4 Genesis Chamber
// 26 Creature
4 Soul's Attendant
4 Soul Warden
1 Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim
4 Karlov of the Ghost Council
4 Blood Artist
4 Zulaport Cutthroat
4 Suture Priest
1 Ghost Council of Orzhova
4 Caves of Koilos
3 Swamp
3 Plains
4 Concealed Courtyard
2 Rogue's Passage
1 Vault of the Archangel
4 Forbidden Orchard
1 Westvale Abbey
4 Return to the Ranks
The clamps aren't strictly necessary; they just happen to work great for both card draw and death triggers.
This was my intial thought too, but I'd not even thought of this below;
TD plus the other options I've already named, I'm not sure green is really putting it's hand up here.
TD is definitely a strong option tho.
Interesting.

Price has come down on Serra Ascendant
Wrath heavy meta I would play Crested Sunmare over Archangel of Thune plus its cheaper but I don't think it's going to come down in price at rotation.
Authority of the consuls is great as a two of. Can trigger stuff each turn.
If you have life gain hoser cards like rain of gore in your meta certainly swap out Soul Warden for Suture Priest

For card advantage, I'd also recommend Ranger of Eos - it gives a body and searches for two more, grabbing Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant, and/or Serra Ascendant.

You're probably right, but I can wait and see.
And it works with Return to the Ranks, which can't be said for Cliffhaven Vampire.
